Man United v Man City, Sunday, 3:30pm
TV: Sky Sports Main Event
It was an emotional night on Tuesday for United at Old Trafford for everyone concerned.
For a club to lose a legend like Sir Bobby Charlton, such an icon, someone who’s been around the club so long, it will have been difficult for everyone connected with United.
On the pitch, United got the job done but it was tough at times. They haven’t really convinced this season. Certainly it feels like there’s been more negative than positive, but that was a big result for them as it keeps them in Europe.
Harry Maguire got the goal. He’s shown in the last couple games that he’s fighting for his place. I always thought the criticism was way over the top.
He was always an England player throughout this, I watched him and he always performed. He was like a different player.
They really needed that goal too.
United aren’t making enough chances. When you look at the creative players – Eriksen, Mount, Antony, Garnacho, Bruno Fernandes, Rashford – you can’t understand why they don’t create more.
And they’ll need to improve taking on Man City.
They’ve suffered a few upsets in the league this season, but still look a formidable side obviously, and you really struggle to see anything other than a City win on Sunday.
I don’t know if we can say if they are a better side than last year though. They are conceding more goals than usual for one thing.
Both Teams to Score – Yes
They still look a class act, they’ll be there or thereabouts in Europe again and I think they’ll win the league, but are they stronger now? You couldn’t say they are.
But this does feel kind of ridiculous because their standards have been so high.
They’ll still probably go and beat everyone in sight, but they just look a little bit more human this year.
It does mean that we should see some goals on Sunday though, and Both Teams to Score seems likely.
Erling Haaland Anytime Score
City had another win in Europe in midweek making it three from three, and Erling Haaland got a couple more goals too.
He scored against Brighton last weekend too, and if City score – which they always do – it’s probably going to be him, isn’t it?
Rasmus Hojlund to Have 1+ Shots on Target
For their goal scoring struggles, I like Rasmus Hojlund from what I’ve seen of him. He will come good because he has all the attributes to be a success.
He’ll be a threat on Sunday too and a shot on target looks reasonable.
Rodri to Commit 2+ Fouls
Rodri’s a big player for city as we’ve seen during his suspension. He’s back in the team now and with this being a derby he might need to make a few fouls.
Scott McTominay to be Shown a Card
Scott McTominay is a local lad and it often feels like players who come through at clubs are more fired up for these games, so if he plays he’s a decent punt for a card.
