Denmark’s run to the semi-finals of Euro 2020 was their strongest showing in the tournament since a wild European Championship title win way back in 1992.
The Danes played up to their calling card of being superbly organised, handsome and difficult to dislike, even as they politely knock you out of the tournament.
Defeat to England in the last four saw Gareth Southgate’s side into a first ever Euros final last time around and they have been paired with the Three Lions again.
Despite being forced to play for Manchester United all season, Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund actually enjoy playing for their national side, and that could be a dangerous prospect for Southgate and the rest of Group C. Particuarly with revenge on their mind after that last four loss at Wembley…

CAPTAIN: King of the nice guys Simon Kjaer will lead Hjulmand’s men in Germany.
STAR PLAYER: Eriksen is still the biggest name in the Denmark squad, despite playing a bit-part role at Old Trafford in 2024, so his Red Devils teammate Hojlund gets the nod based on a superb goal record for his country (seven in 12, at time of writing).
HOW THEY GOT THERE: Qualification was a close thing for Denmark as they just nudged top spot with a better head-to-head record over second place Slovenia, who they meet again in Germany this summer.
HOW WILL THEY DO: On paper Group C looks to be a straight fight for top spot between England and Denmark, but they look unlikely to match their Euro 2020 semi-final exploits.
BEST BET: The feeling is that Denmark will probably land somewhere between the last 16 and the quarter-finals before bowing out. With that in mind, a little outside the box thinking is needed, and hear me out…..Hojlund as a Golden Boot dark horse. He bagged seven in qualifying, bettered only by big hitters Romelu Lukaku, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane.
If he fills his boots in the group stages he could be an option to challenge Mbappe and the rest again.
