Belgium tackle Italy in a mouth-watering quarter final clash at Euro 2020 tonight. The Red Devils look like they’ll be without start men Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard at 8pm tonight.
It’s a big blow for them and they’ll need to be at their best to break down an Italy side in unbelievable form who are unbeaten in over 30 games and are yet to conceded at the tournament. But where are the numbers telling us to put our hard-earned?
Friday 8pm: Belgium v Italy BBC One, RTE2 and BBC iPlayer
Lorenzo Insigne has managed four shots on target from 11 efforts in his three appearances at the tournament, including a goal against Turkey, and I think he could add to his tally against Belgium. He averages over a shot on target per 90 for both and club and country, and is always keen to ping in shots when cutting in from the left hand side onto his dangerous right foot. Lorenzo Insigne to Have 1 or More Shots on Target kicks us off here.
Belgium showed against Portugal that they’re happy to play a more conservative style of football and mix it with a physical side, something they didn’t need to do in the group stages against far inferior opposition Italy. Belgium will be keen to stop counter attacks with Ciro Immobile happy to run in behind a near-geriatric back three. The tricky trio of Marco Verratti, Federico Chiesa and Nicolo Barella could all start and all three are regularly fouled, and I expect that trio to be on the receiving end of some levellers from their opponents in Munich as Belgium rack up Over 1.5 Cards.
Roma left-back Leonardo Spinazzola has arguably been one of Italy’s best attacking players this tournament. He’s a constant thorn in the side and with the slow and ageing duo Thomas Meunier and Toby Alderweireld trying to halt his steam train-like progress down the left, we could see Spinazzola get a strike on target, something he’s done twice in four games at Euro 2020.
Eden’s little brother Thorgan Hazard stole in the headlines in the Round of 16 and I think he could play a prominent role once again here. He’s not the most accomplished defensively and prefers going forward – as was evident against Portugal. With Giovanni Di Lorenzo and, likely, Chiesa running at him he could be in trouble with the ref. He’s committed eight fouls at Euro 2020 and facing two of Italy’s most fouled players could see Thorgan Hazard find his way into referee Slavko Vincic’s notebook.
