The knockout stage proper of the Champions League continues on Wednesday at 8pm with three mouth-watering ties in Germany, Portugal, and France.
Football tipster Tom Desborough has scoured the markets and found four value picks, split across three games, involving Bayern Munich in an all-German tie, Barcelona returning to the Estadio da Luz and Liverpool travelling to PSG.
Let’s get into it…

Bayern Munich v Bayer Leverkusen
Allianz Arena, Munich
TV: Sky Sports Mix, 7:30pm
Draw
The one great thing about the new Champions League format is that we get more domestic clashes like this one on the European stage. Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen travel to the current league leaders looking to ruin their
Vincent Kompany’s Bayern have looked surprisingly unconvincing in Europe this season despite their dominance in Germany. They needed a last-gasp winner to avoid extra time with Celtic last round and have already lost to Barcelona, Feyernoord, and Aston Villa.
Xabi Alonso has had his previous employers’ number in head-to-head contests, winning three and drawing three out of all six times he’s faced them as manager.
The 0-0 draw last month suggests his Leverkusen side can still cause Bayern problems and they could escape the Allianz Arena with a draw in the first leg.
Under 2.5 goals
First leg ties are always tough to predict, especially between two sides who are so evenly matched.
However, in recent history, this matchup hasn’t produced many goals, with the last three all producing Under 2.5. This includes Leverkusen’s last two trips to the Allianz Arena, where neither side scored more than once in either game.
This could be a steady affair, with the visitors looking to return to the BayArena with everything to play for in next week’s second leg.

Benfica v Barcelona
Estadio da Luz
TV: One Football, 7:45pm
Over 2.5 goals
The draw was kind to us neutrals again for this game, setting up a repeat of the game of the League stage with Benfica v Barcelona.
Barcelona escaped the Estadio da Luz in January with a 5-4 win, despite being 4-2 down with 12 minutes to play.
Benfica will be looking to extract some revenge on Wednesday as they will feel they deserved to win their previous meeting and will want to take the advantage into the second leg.
Five of their eight games in the League stage saw over 2.5 goals. As for Barcelona, that accolade landed in all eight of theirs.
Although there may not be as many goals as in their January meeting, we should still be in for a high-scoring affair.
PSG v Liverpool
Parc des Princes, Paris
TV: Premier Sports Player, La Liga TV, 8pm
Liverpool to win
Our final game on Wednesday night is arguably the pick of the bunch as Premier League leaders Liverpool travel to Paris to take on Luis Enrique’s PSG.
Arne Slot’s Reds look to have the Premier League all sewn up, so most of his side’s efforts will be focused on securing a famous double by winning the Champions League.
A 3-2 defeat to PSV in their final League stage game did prevent them from winning eight out of eight in Europe. But they have been near impossible to beat when they have been full strength.
PSG took a while to get going in Europe this season, losing to Arsenal, Bayern, and Atletico in the early stages. They did go on to beat Man City and made short work of domestic rivals Brest in the play-off round.
Despite their renaissance, Liverpool will be their toughest test. They probably have too much for them, so I’ll give the visitors a win.
