Liverpool has been fantastic under Arne Slot, but this is a real test for them. I followed Bayer Leverkusen last year and was blown away by them.

Every now and then in football, a team comes along and you think you’ve seen it all but the way that they played last season, the non-chalant way that they pressed and used the ball, they were just incredible to watch.

After their Europa League defeat to Atalanta in the Europe League Final last season, we spoke to Xavi Alonso on TV, and, well, with some managers, they have a real aura around them. Some don’t, obviously, but Alonso definitely has one about him. He was a great player, and he’s well on the way to becoming a great manager, too.

This is Arne Slot’s first big test at home, Leverkusen are the real deal. This one is going to be one of those brilliant European nights at Anfield with lots of goals, and I see it ending in 2-2. This is going to be the game of the week.

I’m going to be a bit boring with my goalscorer pick and go with Mohamed Salah. There’s a lot of talk about his contract coming to an end. If there’s anyone with any smarts at Liverpool, you’re sitting him down and trying to tie him up; the way he lives his life, he’ll go on for many, many years to come.

I like Victor Boniface for Leverkusen, too. They rotated him last season with Patrik Schick, who’s a very good player, too. Boniface is a big and physical lad, and he could give Virgil van Dijk a bit of trouble. They get a lot of crosses and slipped balls into the box, so I’d back him to score for the visitors.
