We’ve got an action-packed Saturday night in the MLS. There are 13 matches being played across Saturday evening into the wee hours of Sunday morning, and our football tipster, Paddy Murphy, has dived into the best of the fixtures to find five value picks.
With this being a five-fold Acca, too, Paddy’s footy acca betting offer kicks in, so we’ll get our stake back if just one leg lets us down.
Saturday’s MLS Footy Acca tips

Minnesota United v LA Galaxy – Minnesota United to win
MLS match at Allianz Field, Saint Paul
TV: AppleTV, 8:30pm
The AppleTV video editors will be missing a trick if they don’t feature Soundgarden’s ‘Feeling Minnesota, looking California’ lyrics from their song, Outshined, here at some point. However, the home side is feeling the better of the teams so far this season.
Eric Ramsay’s team has won two, drawn one, and lost one of their four games this season, while LA Galaxy is rooted to the bottom of the Western Conference with just one point to their name after their four league outings thus far.
The away side will take some confidence from their last game, though, where they clawed back to a 1-1 draw with a late equalizer. However, they’ve really struggled for goals so far this season, and the Loons have scored five goals over their five games, keeping two clean sheets as well. A home win has the value here.

Charlotte v San Jose Earthquakes – Both teams to score & over 2.5 goals
MLS match at the Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte
TV: AppleTV, 11:30pm
There’s little to separate these two coming into this match. The hosts have won two, drawn one, and lost one while the away side have won two and lost two. Charlotte have scored six and conceded three while San Jose have scored seven and conceded four.
The home side are short odds with Paddy for the win. We’d have to put that down to the fact that they’ve kept a clean sheet in all four of their most recent home MLS games, albeit two of those were played last season.
The Earthquakes have scored in all but one of their matches this season and three over their two away games. We’d be remiss not to mention that the hosts have hit the back of the net at least twice in five of their last six in front of their own fans. Both should be scoring in that case, and we should be seeing at least one of the sides bagging a second.
Columbus Crew v NYFC – NYFC and draw (double chance)
MLS match at the Lower.com Field, Columbus
TV: AppleTV, 11:30pm
Just a point separates these sides in the Easter Conference standings. Columbus Crew have won two and drawn two in their MLS games so far, while NYFC have won two, drawn one, and lost one. Both sides have scored six goals with the Crew conceding three to NY’s five.
There’s a decent argument to be made that Columbus will be a bit sharper than their opponents, though. They’ve also played two games in the CONCACAF Champions League, losing away to LAFC before beating them in the return tie but crashing out on goal difference.
Interestingly, in both of NYFC’s two most recent games, they’ve dug out wins in the second half, so that’s obviously a good sign for identifying a team on an upward trend. Meanwhile, the Crew threw away a lead in their last game and drew a blank in a rather full 0-0 in the game prior to that.
The market is fancying the home side here, very much so, but the stats show that there’s some very good value to be had in opposing a home win.

Philadelphia Union v St Louis City – Both teams to score & over 2.5 goals
MLS match at Subaru Park, Chester
TV: AppleTV, 11:30pm
Philadelphia Union are second in the Eastern standings with three wins and one loss so far, 11 goals scored, and six conceded, while St Louis City have won two and drawn two, scoring four goals and conceding none.
Three of Union’s games have seen at least three goals scored; actually, all three of them witnessed at least four goals. While St Louis was slow off the mark with their two 0-0 draws to begin the season, they’ve scored four over their other two games. You’d have to fancy both teams scoring here, and at least a third goal being scored as well.
Vancouver Whitecaps v Chicago Fire – Over 2.5 goals
MLS match at BC Place, Vancouver
TV: AppleTV, 2:30am
Vancouver Whitecaps are the only team left with a 100% record after their four games; they’ve scored nine goals so far and conceded just two. Chicago Fire have won two, drawn one, and lost one, scoring a respectable nine goals as well, but have conceded eight.
It won’t be all plain sailing for the hosts here, despite them being strong favourites. Sure, they’ve won all of their games but the Fire have been very sharp in front of goal as well and made light work of both Dallas and Toronto in their last two outings.
Over 2.5 goals has to be the play here, especially since it’s landed in six of their eight combined MLS games so far.
