Thursday night features some superb games in the UEFA Nations League including Italy hosting Germany in the quarter finals as part of race for the summer finals series.
Luciano Spalletti’s team squeezed into this phase at the end of 2024, after losing their final group game against France, with Julian Nagelsmann’s side unbeaten in their campaign.

Nations League match at the San Siro, Milan
This should be a great game between two of the old war horses of international football. Both teams have broken English hearts in recent years and stretching a bit back in history.
However, I’ve got a real positivity for the Italians right now, and particularly their midfield with Sandro Tonali and Nicolo Barella. Defensively they look solid as well, they look like a real team, so I’m going to back Italy for the win here.
I don’t think it will be easy for them, and they do rely heavily on goals from midfield, so I’m going for Barella to either score or assist. I think he’s as good a midfielder as anyone in world football right now, you have to really watch his game, he’s got real quality.
We know with Germany they will be efficient, and they have a player who I coached briefly at Chelsea in Jamal Musiala, he’s a superb player. He’s on list that of brilliant young players around the world who are thriving – so I will go for him to score and assist also , but Italy to get the win.
