Real Madrid v Arsenal
Champions League match at Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano, Madrid
TV: TNT Sports, DAZN YouTube, 5:45pm
Arsenal to win & both teams to score
Arsenal, of course, come into this game as favourites. They’ve won seven of their last 10 games in all competitions, scoring a whopping 28 goals. Of their last five, they’ve won four and lost one. Their away results have also seen them win four and lose one, scoring 12 goals and conceding five.
Real Madrid have won two, drawn one, and lost two over their last five, while on home soil have won two, drawn two (winning one on penalties), and lost one, scoring a healthy 13 goals, conceding 10.
Goals are certainly on the menu here, and Arsenal’s run of great form, especially on the road, should see them take a lead back to the Emirates for next week’s second leg.
Alessia Russo to score
With goals due, we have to look at Arsenal’s Alessia Russo to get on the scoresheet. Of her 16 WSL games, she’s bagged an impressive 10 goals so far this season and has been red-hot in the Champions League, scoring five goals.
She’s also got three goals over her last four in an Arsenal shirt, so we’d be a bit barmy not to give her the nod here.
Bayern Munich v Lyon
Champions League match at the FC Bayern Campus Platz 1, Munich
TV: TNT Sports, 8pm
Lyon to score the first goal
Both teams come into their first-leg clash in incredible form. Bayern have lost just two games so far this season, while Lyon’s only loss this campaign was via a penalty shootout in the Coupe de France.
On home soil, the Bavarians have played 17 home games, winning 14, drawing three, and winning one of those on penalties. Of their last five home games, they’ve scored a healthy 14 goals while conceding just two.
Lyon have played 13 games on the road this season, winning 11, drawing two, losing one on penalties. Of their last five on their travels, they’ve scored 16 goals and conceded just one.
While both teams are scoring for fun, both sides are very strong at the back. However, we’ve noticed that Bayern don’t score a ton of goals in the first period of play, and indeed, Lyon most certainly do.
We’ll likely see the hosts trying to frustrate their French opposition in the opening half and up the tempo as the clock ticks down. But Lyon’s record of nine first-half goals over their last five away games means we’re happy to back them to open the scoring.
Bayern and Draw
The Lyon odds seem too skinny. Yes, they’re one of the best teams in Europe, yes they’re scoring for fun of late but this Bayern side are incredible at home.
Of course, you can make an argument that Lyon face better sides in the Premiere Ligue when compared to the Frauen Bundesliga but still, the fact that Bayern haven’t lost this season on home soil means they’re obviously doing something correctly.
All good runs do eventually come to an end but there’s value to be had here in opposing a Lyon victory.
