Celtic to win

Celtic are out to avenge a humbling 3-0 away loss to Rangers when the sides last met, and in truth they should have the capacity to do this.

The home side come into this game fresh from a midweek off and in devastating offensive form, having scored 13 goals across their last 3 domestic matches. At Parkhead, meanwhile, they have rarely been seriously challenged this season, winning all but 1 of their home league fixtures – doing so by more than 1 goal in every game.

Rangers might have won their last 5 on the road, but they laboured against Fenerbahce in midweek, with an energy-sapping period of extra-time the last thing they needed ahead of this clash. They have lost 3 of their last 5 in all competitions.

3+ Rangers cards

One thing that should be ensured by appointing club icon Barry Ferguson as Rangers’ manager is that there will be no lack of effort and commitment. That is likely to translate itself into a physical approach, which, combined with the legs being a little heavy after the midweek game, is a recipe for cards.

Rangers have picked up 15 yellows in 3 matches against Celtic this season (including one that went to extra-time), and another flurry of activity for referee Steven McLean is likely in the east end of Glasgow.

In Thursday’s Europa League clash, the Gers picked up seven cards.

Celtic, corner match bet

Winning corners is a speciality for Celtic, and with the home team liable to be on the front foot for much of this encounter, it is logical to believe that they will again earn more of these situations than their neighbours.

No team in the Premiership earns more corners than the Hoops, who have picked up a massive 8.86 per match this season and have conceded only 3.03. These figures improve to 10.21 and 2.64 respectively when they are playing at home.

Brendan Rodgers’ side won 7 corners to 4 at Celtic Park in their last head-to-head meeting.

Mohamed Diomande to be fouled 2+ times

Diomande is Rangers’ most fouled player in the league this season, picking up 39 fouls for his side in the heart of the park. Over the course of an average 90 minutes, this translates to 1.76 fouls.

In his previous matches against Celtic this season, that figure has been even greater, with the Ivory Coast midfielder embracing the derby atmosphere by getting stuck in. He was fouled five times on Rangers’ last visit to Celtic Park – nearly 50% of the free-kicks that the Gers won – while he also drew four in the return match at Ibrox.

Brave on the ball and competitive when defending, look for him to be at the heart of the action once more.

Daizen Maeda to have 2+ shots

Having scored in each of his last six league starts, Daizen Maeda is unsurprisingly favourite to find the net first in this game, but strong value is also available on the Japan international mustering at least a couple of shots.

He has had two or more efforts in goal in each of his last 10 matches, while he also had four efforts when Rangers last came calling to Parkhead.

With Kyogo Furuhashi having departed the club in January, expect to see him take up the mantle of Celtic’s derby talisman.
