EFL Betting Tips: Matthew O’Regan’s Saturday best bets from the 3pm kickoffs

Our tipster Matthew O'Regan drops his Saturday picks in the Championship, League One and League Two.

After the excitement of the Cheltenham Festival this week, it’s back to the football over the weekend and we’ve got another packed EFL slate of matches.

The season is hotting up as we enter the latter stages of the campaign. Teams have promotion, playoffs and safety to fight for, while some are on the beach with their feet up already.

While this can present value on certain sides, it can also be a betting minefield. Matthew O’Regan tries to navigate the market and offer his NAP, next best and longshot on Saturday.

NAP: Charlton and Bradford BOTH to win

Looking at the slate of games available, few prices stood out as a backable single. However, I feel going with two of the most in-form home sides in England is a sensible way to start.

Charlton Athletic are looking to end a five-year spell in League One and in Nathan Jones they have a promotion specialist. When The Addicks lost to Rotherham on the 18th of January, they were 20 points off second place and seven off seventh. Nine wins from their last 12 games has seen them comfortably into the playoffs and now just five points off automatic promotion.

Their form at the Valley has been astounding, winning six in a row, and going ten games unbeaten. Jones has his side well-disciplined and hard to break down. Only Birmingham and Wrexham have conceded fewer home goals than them.

Making the long journey to South-East London are Wigan Athletic who sit 15th. The Latics have struggled going forward, scoring just 35 goals. It should be a low-scoring game that the hosts get the better of.

Bradford are in even stronger form at home, winning their last ten, and keeping a clean sheet in the last six. The Bantams boast the best home record in the league and are racing to promotion at a rate of knots.

Tranmere are the visitors on Saturday, coming to Bradford with the worst away record in the league. Under the guidance of interim manager Andy Crosby, they have improved, taking five points from three, including their first away point in eleven games. But, Rovers have taken just nine points away from home and face a long afternoon at a rampant Bradford.

Next Best – Coventry v Sunderland – Both teams to score: Yes

Since Frank Lampard came in, Coventry have been in spectacular form, winning nine games in the last 11. A 2-0 defeat at former club Derby halted momentum slightly, but the Sky Blues will still be confident of reaching the playoffs.

Lampard has got his side firing, only failing to score at home to Leeds and at Derby in 2025. This season, Both Teams To Score has landed in 11 out of 18 (61%) of Coventry’s home games.

Sunderland’s outside shot of automatic promotion now looks to be dead in the water, so Regis Le Bris’ side will have to settle for the playoffs. The Black Cats’ usual solid defence has been an issue recently, with their only clean sheet in their last nine coming at home to lowly Luton.

However, they do boast a strong attack and have only failed to score at home to Hull ( with 1.13 xG) and away to defensively resolute Burnley. With both sides in strong goal scoring form, we should see both on the scoresheet in Coventry.

Longshot – Wycombe v Wrexham – Wrexham to win

Wycombe host Wrexham in a crunch game in the League One promotion race. The Chairboys sit above Wrexham on goal difference, so the impact of Saturday can not be understated.

Wycombe’s strong start to the season under Matt Bloomfield caught the attention of Championship strugglers Luton, who appointed the 41-year-old as their new manager. The hierarchy took a risk in appointing Mike Dodds as a replacement and the 38-year-old has been hit and miss. He’s won two games, drawn three and lost two.

Wrexham come into the game off the back of a 2-0 loss to Reading, thwarting a four-game unbeaten streak that saw them keep three straight clean sheets. The Red Dragons boast the second-best defensive record in the league, with Phil Parkinson making them hard to beat.

The hosts have scored the most goals in the league (61) but have found it tough in front of goal in recent weeks. Wrexham will come to frustrate Wycombe but may leave Adams Park with all three points.
