Fantasy Premier League: Count on Man City defence in Gameweek 28

Nathon Woodhead looks at the state of play and provides a few timely pointers for Gameweek 28

The Premier League season rolls on and while a lot of the big questions look pretty settled, FPL standings are anything but – fair to say it was a mistake to agree with the “whoever finishes last gets their nipple pierced” forfeit back in August, but there is still time to turn it around!

And Power Tower fantasy football fanatic Nathon Woodhead is here to do his bit for the cause in Gameweek 28…

Gameweek 27 threw up very little in the way of surprises in terms of results, but what we found ourselves screaming about was a host of differentials and unlikely heroes topping the round scoring, and possibly throwing your mini-league on its head!

Ismaila Sarr of Palace, Marc Cucucrella of Chelsea and Jaden Philogene of Ipswich all topped the round-scoring for players, returning 15 points apiece; season high scores for the latter pair.

Sarr actually hit 17 points in GW17, but we wouldn’t rush to put him in our side as it seems he is as consistent as English sunshine, failing to provide any kind of attacking return in 21 out of 27 gameweeks this season.

Oliver Glasner topped round-scoring overall delivering his second 20-point haul in a row. Hands up if you’ve used your Assistant Manager chip.

Chelsea dominated Southampton in a 4-0 win, and their assets hogged GW27 round- scoring with Colwill (14), Maresca (12), Nkunku (12) and Neto (11) joining Cucurella in the top 10.

No sign of Cole Palmer though. The Chelsea talisman hasn’t offered a double-digit return in six gameweeks. Should the 59.5% who own him stick or twist?

Who else was there no sign of? Mo Salah. Well, he did register an assist, but he was nowhere near his usual elite levels.

Looking ahead at GW28 and sticking with Liverpool, it seems obvious there are attacking returns up for grabs at Anfield, where the champions elect face relegation-fodder Southampton.

Perhaps sticking with the Chelsea forwards in GW28 wouldn’t be a bad thing as they host lowly Leicester.

Clean sheets and defensive bonus points could be expected at the City Ground as Forest host Man City which we assume will play out exactly as Forest Arsenal did in GW27.

Like a peak 90s Mystic Meg, let’s see what we have in store in GW28…

Szob’s just the job

We all have Mo Salah in our side, but what we can’t settle on is which other Liverpool asset to have. Gakpo, Diaz and Jota all run hot and cold, and the less said about Nunez the better.

Paddy’s Pro Tip: Following back-to-back double-digit scores (11 vs Newcastle and 13 vs Man City), we think £6.4 Szoboszlai is a man in form, nicely priced and worth backing. Plus, he’s only owned by 4.1%. Differential vibes!

Guess who’s back?

How many times have we claimed City are back? A 1-0 win at Spurs consisting of a Haaland goal and a clean sheet and currently occupying fourth place. Are City back? Surely this time they are.

Paddy’s Pro Tip: Back your defensive City assets. Gvardiol, Dias and Ederson could be in line for clean sheet and bonus points against Forest.

Nothing but Neto

Three attacking returns in his last four games has made £6.2m Pedro Neto a very attractive option. Maresca loves to rotate though, that’s Pep’s influence right there. Maresca-roulette anyone?

Paddy’s Pro Tip: We will be backing Neto with a start this weekend and expect attacking returns, but with London derbies against Arsenal, Spurs and Brentford across the following three gameweeks, we are not convinced he is a long-term solution.
