Football Tips: Our best bets for Saturday’s FA Cup clashes

After landing a 22/1 Bet Builder in the Premier League last weekend, Andrew Beasley's back for more.

The FA Cup has reached the fifth round, so there are just 16 teams left who can go all the way.

The likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are not among them. It makes Manchester City the clear outright favourite, but struggling teams like Ipswich and Manchester United will fancy their chances of reaching Wembley.

Four of the eight matches are taking place on Saturday. Our tipster Andrew Beasley is in fine form and he’s looked at those games with a suggested bet for each.

FA Cup betting tips

12:15pm Crystal Palace v Millwall – Crystal Palace to win & both teams to score
12:15pm Preston v Burnley – Burnley to win to nil
3pm Bournemouth v Wolves – Both teams to score & over 2.5 goals
5:45pm Man City v Plymouth – Man City -3

Crystal Palace v Millwall – Crystal Palace to win & both teams to score

FA Cup match at Selhurst Park, London
TV: BBC One/iPlayer, 12:15pm

There are two lunchtime kick-offs on Saturday afternoon. For starters we have a south-east London derby at Selhurst Park, where Crystal Palace face Millwall.

Hopefully, it will be a repeat of their previous meeting, a summer friendly in 2022, which ended 5-4. The teams clashed in this competition earlier that year, with the Eagles winning 1-2 at The Den.

The records of both clubs suggest a similar scoreline is on the cards. Palace are one of the form teams in the Premier League, although their record has been better on the road. Even so, only Liverpool have a better points-per-game average in 2025.

While not doing quite so well in the Championship, Millwall have only lost three of their 11 Championship matches this year. It’s worth noting they scored in their previous seven away matches in all competitions, too.

With that record combined with the home side’s form, a bet on Crystal Palace in the ‘Result & Both to Score’ market looks decent.

Preston v Burnley – Burnley to win to nil

FA Cup match at Deepdale, Preston
TV: BBC iPlayer, 12:15pm

We’re off to the north-west next, with Preston hosting Burnley at Deepdale. The recent head-to-head history suggests we’ll be lucky if anyone finds the back of the net in this one.

The previous two meetings ended 0-0, including one at Preston just two weeks ago. Only one of the last seven clashes featured more than two goals, with six of them seeing at least one side failing to score.

Even if you don’t follow the Championship that closely, you’ve probably heard about the Clarets’ absurdly good defensive record.

Scott Parker’s side have conceded just nine goals in their 34 league games this season. The only team to score against them in their last 14 matches in all competitions was League One side, Reading in the FA Cup third round.

With Preston scoring no more than once in any of their previous six games, Burnley should be able to win to nil.

Bournemouth v Wolves – Both teams to score & over 2.5 goals

FA Cup match at the Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth
3pm

The 3pm match is another fixture which has been played very recently. Wolves won 0-1 at Bournemouth last Saturday, and they’ll be back at the Vitality Stadium once again.

Last week, the visitors’ cause was aided by playing against 10 men for an hour following Illia Zabarnyi’s red card. This helps explain why the game was much lower-scoring than has normally been the case for Wolves on the road in 2024/25. Their preceding 11 away league games all saw at least three goals.

This goes against Bournemouth’s home record. Their games on the south coast have tended to be light on goals, their recent 5-0 thumping of Nottingham Forest aside.

But there should be goals here, as the teams can play without the pressure that comes with competing for European football or avoiding Premier League relegation. A repeat of the Cherries’ 2-4 win at Molineux in November wouldn’t seem weird, so take Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals.

Man City v Plymouth – Man City -3

FA Cup match at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester
TV: ITV4, 3pm

Our action concludes at the Etihad Stadium, where a side that was recently well beaten by Premier League leaders Liverpool faces another who beat them earlier this month.

Imagine thinking at the start of the season that we’d be talking about Manchester City and Plymouth in that order. Yet here we are.

Despite Pep Guardiola’s men losing three of their last five games, they are understandably red-hot favourites against a side who are in the Championship relegation zone. Argyle’s famous win over Liverpool was secured at home, whereas they are the only team who have yet to win away in the second tier this season.

The only question is by how many goals are City going to win? They thrive in mismatches of this nature, putting eight past Salford earlier in the competition, while Huddersfield lost 5-0 at the Etihad last season.

In short, set the line where you feel comfortable. I’ll be taking the standard Handicap Betting selection of Man City -3 goals. But if Pep selects anything like a full-strength side, don’t be afraid to go higher.
