AC Milan v Lazio
Serie A match at the San Siro, Milan
Both teams to score: Yes
AC Milan’s 2-1 defeat at Bologna on Thursday compounded a disastrous 10-day period, that saw them lose successive Serie A away games by that score, and exit the Champions League at the hands of Feyenoord.
Successive league defeats have left their hopes of competing in next season’s Champions League in tatters while also highlighting defensive frailties that have plagued them throughout the season.
Milan have conceded 28 goals in 26 league games this season, not a disaster by any stretch, but more than any of the teams currently occupying the Champions League places.
Their opponents on Sunday boast a worse defensive record still, conceding 34 goals in the same number of games, and managing just one clean sheet in their last six games in all competitions.
Lazio’s defensive record is the second-worst in the top ten, while their attack is the third-best in Italy.
There is a good chance they will score against a shaky Milan defence, but they will struggle to keep Milan out at the other end, considering the Rossoneri have found the back of the net in 10 of their last 11 league outings.
Milan simply cannot lose against fifth-placed Lazio if they are to have any hope of hauling themselves back into the European race, and they should make a good fist of it on Sunday night.
Santiago Gimenez to score
Santiago Gimenez has enjoyed a bittersweet start to life at the San Siro, scoring in each of his two home starts for his new club, including a goal on his Champions League debut. That goal, however, came in a 1-1 draw against his former club Feyenoord, who progressed to the last 16 on aggregate.
Gimenez showed he has not lost his scoring touch since swapping Rotterdam for Milan in January, especially at home, and has scored three times in six appearances since making the switch.
The Mexican scored 16 goals in 19 appearances for Feyenoord, before making moving at the start of 2025, making him one of the hottest prospects in Europe.
With neither Milan nor Lazio boast any players scoring a huge deal of goals this season, Jimenez is by far the most reliable player to find the back of the net.

Marseille v Nantes
Ligue 1 match at the Stade Velodrome, Marseille
Marseille (-1)
Any slim hope Marseille had of catching runaway Ligue 1 leaders PSG surely evaporated last weekend with their 3-0 defeat at Auxerre.
That does not mean they will not win comfortably on Sunday, however. Roberto De Zerbi’s side ran out 5-1 winners over Saint Etienne in their last home game and have taken 14 points from their last six home outings.
Nantes, on the other hand, lost 7-1 at Monaco in their last away game and have won on the road just twice all season. Marseille can get back to winning ways and they should do so in style.
Mason Greenwood to have 3+ shots on target
Mason Greenwood has scored in three successive home games for Marseille and is the club’s top scorer this season, scoring twice as many league goals as any other player, with 14 in 23 Ligue 1 appearances.
It should come as no surprise that Greenwood also attempts the most shots per game of any Marseille player that has played a minimum of five games this season, averaging 3.4 shots per game in Ligue 1, more than double the average of their next-highest player.
He faces a Nantes outfit that face an average of roughly 14 shots per away game this season and it is not inconceivable he will register at least three efforts on target on Sunday.
