Newcastle v Nottingham Forest Tips: Your 22/1 Bet Builder for Sunday’s early clash

Andrew Beasley takes a deep dive in search for the very best value at St James' Park.

Some call it Newcastle v Nottingham Forest. Our tipster Andrew Beasley prefers to call it The Odisseas Vlachodimos derby.

Whatever title you give it, this is a Premier League match between two clubs that were having good seasons but have recently hit a few bumps in the road. With these teams facing Liverpool and Arsenal in the forthcoming round of midweek fixtures, both need a win here.

Paddy’s Super Sub offer covers two player picks, meaning that if a player is substituted, the pick carries over to his replacement so let’s get into Andrew’s Bet Builder!

Morgan Gibbs-White 3+ shots

WHEN: Sunday, 23rd of February, 2pm
WHERE: St James’ Park, Newcastle
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League

Newcastle to win

Neither side is in form. Newcastle have lost three of their last four Premier League matches. As if being beaten at home by Bournemouth and Fulham wasn’t bad enough, they then lost 4-0 to the ghosts of Manchester City. They barely laid a glove on the misfiring champions.

Forest can at least point to a 7-0 thumping of Brighton in recent weeks. But in the last month, they were also thrashed 5-0 by Bournemouth, lost 2-1 at Fulham and needed penalties to see off League One Exeter City in the FA Cup. They have been poor travellers of late.

Interestingly, the away side won these teams’ last four league meetings. There won’t be many head-to-heads for which this is the case.

Even so, the Magpies should have the edge and should want this one more. They will see this as far more winnable than a trip to Anfield, while Forest will focus on welcoming an injury-ravaged Arsenal to the City Ground on Wednesday. Newcastle to win.

4/5
Newcastle Match Odds

Over 2.5 goals

Both teams played Liverpool, an aberration in their record this season. Forest won away against the Reds, having failed to bring home three points from any other current top-half side.

As for Eddie Howe’s boys, they played out a 3-3 draw at St James Park with the league leaders when they beat Arsenal 1-0 and drew 1-1 with Manchester City in low-scoring encounters.

While this won’t be a six-goal thriller, both teams have scored in the previous five meetings in all competitions. The last four in the league all featured at least three goals, with two 3-1s and a 3-2 scoreline among them.

Newcastle saw Over 2.5 goals payout in their previous six Premier League matches, their longest run for this since 2024/25. Given everything that has happened between these teams, it makes sense to take that bet again.

Over 2.5 Goals Over/Under 2.5 Goals

Nottingham Forest 5+ shots on target

Newcastle’s lack of recent consistency increases the chances of a few goals. Their only clean sheet in their last six league games occurred in their home win over Wolves.

Even then, they conceded seven shots on target. Bear in mind this was against a side that has averaged just 3.9 shots on target in their other away league games this season.

Bournemouth are far closer in standard to Forest and they had 10 efforts on target at Newcastle. It is safe to assume the away side will have 5 Or More Shots On Target in this match, especially as they logged six in this fixture last season.

13/8
Nottm Forest Team To Have 5 Or More Shots On Target

Alexander Isak to score

Alexander Isak is on a mini-drought in front of goal. The sight of Forest should wake him from his striking slumbers.

Exclude a brace at Southampton, as goals against a team that bad barely count, and the Swede has failed to score in his last four starts. Isak has scored in all three matches he has played against Forest in the Premier League, though, with four goals (and an assist) in total.

A player that good will never go goal-less for too long, so back Isak to be an anytime goal scorer here.

Morgan Gibbs-White 3+ shots

If Forest are to have a chance here, you’d imagine former Newcastle striker Chris Wood will need to play a significant role.

And indeed, he might, but there are better value options. Despite scoring 18 league goals to Morgan Gibbs-White’s five this season, Wood only averages 0.1 shots per game more than the latter.

Forest’s chief attacking midfielder has had three shots in two of his last three league matches. Only four players across the Premier League had a perfect three-from-three record for this stat in that timeframe.

Gibbs-White averages 1.9 shots per 90 minutes and has upped his rate recently. A bet on him to have 3 Or More Shots looks like a very decent option to round off our selections.
