Erling Haaland 1+ Shots on Target
Erling Haaland’s record in front of goal speaks for itself, the Norwegian striker has scored 19 goals across his 25 Premier League appearances this season whilst averaging 2.20 shots on target per 90, a record that looks promising when backing him to find the target just once here.
Haaland is easily Man City’s biggest goal threat, as evidenced by the fact he’s scored 12 more goals than City’s next top goalscorer in Phil Foden (7). Haaland managed 1 shot on target in the initial meeting between these sides at Anfield, and City appear more likely to test their opposition on home territory here. Haaland has had at least 1 shot on target in each of his last 5 Premier League appearances.
City are averaging 6.1 shots on target per game in the Premier League this campaign, you would expect them to test Liverpool’s resolve on a few occasions here, with Haaland the most likely to find the target in the City squad.
Ryan Gravenberch 1+ fouls won
Ryan Gravenberch has been a big part of Liverpool’s success this season, the central midfielder has the rare ability to get himself out of tight spaces with smart turns and an incredible sense of positioning, which naturally leads to him being fouled.
Gravenberch is averaging 1.45 fouls won per 90 in the Premier League this season and has been brought down at least once in 4 of his last 5 Premier League appearances. He was fouled once in the initial meeting between these sides at Anfield.
City don’t commit many fouls (7.2 per game) but should see an increase against this Liverpool side, especially in the midfield areas. Gravenberch will be faced up by Nico Gonzalez who was averaging 2.24 fouls committed per 90 in Liga Portugal prior to joining the Cityzens, and will be instructed to be aggressive against Liverpool’s midfielders.
Abdukodir Khusanov 1+ fouls committed
Khusanov looks a little out of his depth at this level, the aggressive centre back has committed at least 1 foul in each of his 4 appearances across all competitions for City since signing in January.
He’s struggled with the increased intensity and speed of Premier League football which was something that was evident on his Premier League debut against Chelsea where he gifted Chelsea a goal and picked up a yellow card within the first 5 minutes of the game.
Pep Guardiola has continued to trust the young centre back and even trialled him at right-back in Man City’s Champions League exit to Real Madrid in midweek, a game in which he also committed a foul. Given the struggles we’ve seen Khusanov have in recent weeks it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him struggle again here against the most dangerous attacking line in the Premier League.
Man City GK 3+ saves
Ederson is making 2.31 saves per game in the Premier League this season, an average that doesn’t tell the full story in relation to the struggles that City have been having. This average looks set to increase against the league leaders on Sunday.
Liverpool have forced 3+ saves from the opposition goalkeeper in 69% of their Premier League games this season (18/26). In addition, Arne Slot’s side are averaging 6.5 shots on target per game in the league this season, which should give the City goalkeeper plenty of opportunity to rack up a few saves.
Stefan Ortega was in the City net in the initial meeting between these sides earlier in the season and was forced into 5 stops, Liverpool exceeded their average for the season on that day, managing 7 shots on target, and they can replicate a similar number here with Man City showing no signs of defensive solidity.
Savinho 2+ shots
Pep Guardiola has been singing the praises of Savinho lately, the Brazilian has been a bright spark in an otherwise disappointing campaign for City up until this point, and his shot record really stands out here. Man City have been vulnerable to the transition this season, but their attacking play has remained pretty consistent, they’re averaging 16.44 shots per game in the Premier League this campaign so should be able to create opportunities here.
Savinho has taken 41 shots across his 20 Premier League appearances this season, 15 of these have been in starts, taking his average to 2.92 shots per 90 which is an average he should be able to match here when considering his recent form. Savinho has had at least 2 shots in each of his last 5 Premier League matches, which has included tough assignments against Newcastle and Arsenal.
Man City had 8 shots in the initial meeting between these sides at Anfield, a total they should be able to better on home ground – Savinho looks primed for a couple of shots on Sunday.
