The second legs of the Europa League Knockout Round Play-offs conclude on Thursday night with some games on a knife-edge.

Anderlecht v Fenerbahce – Over 2.5 goals

Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce travel to Belgium on Thursday with a foot in the next round following a 3-0 victory in the first leg last week.

The hosts, Anderlecht, need to go for it if they have any chance of overturning the deficit. This should lead to an open game and plenty of opportunities for the visitors to punish them on the counterattack.

With the likes of Youssef En-Nesyri, Edin Dzeko, and Dusan Tadic at their disposal in attack, Fenerbahce posses the firepower necessary to respond if Anderlecht can break down their defence and make things interesting.

Andelecht’s previous home game in the Europa League was a 3-4 defeat to Hoffenheim, so they have precedent for high-scoring games, and I think we will see another here.

Ajax v Union St Gilloise – Brian Brobbey to score

Brian Brobbey returned to Ajax’s starting 11 on Saturday against Heracles and scored one as they ran out 4-0 winners.

The goal took his tally to two goals in three games and should have earned him a start in Thursday’s Europa League second-leg tie against Union St Gilloise.

Ajax gained a 2-0 lead against their Belgian opponents last Thursday, and with home advantage this week, they will be confident they can secure safe passage into the last 16.

A goal could be enough to secure qualification, and Brobbey is the man in form to score it.

Real Sociedad v Midtjylland – Real Sociedad to win

Real Sociedad escaped Denmark with the all-important lead last Thursday as they beat Midtjylland 2-1 at the MCH Arena.

Despite middling overall form, Imanol Alguacil’s side have been solid at home, winning their last three games at the Reale Arena without conceding.

In contrast, Midtjylland are winless in their previous eight European games away from home, with two draws and six defeats, making reaching the next round all the more difficult.

The Danish side needs to score at least one, and the longer the game goes on, the more susceptible they will be to Sociedad catching them with a goal of their own and picking up the win.
