Plymouth v Liverpool Betting tips

The Value Bet: Plymouth (+2)
The One to Add to Your Bet Builder: Adam Randell to commit 1+ fouls
The Longshot: Nikola Katic to score first

WHEN: Sunday, 9th of February, 3pm
WHERE: Home Park, Plymouth
TV: ITV

The Value Bet: Plymouth (+2)

When you look at both team’s respective positions in the league it’s easy to think that this should be an absolute hammering. After all, this is the worst team in the Championship hosting a Liverpool side who are arguably the best in Europe right now. However, upon closer inspection, there’s a chance the gulf on Sunday at least, won’t be as big as that.

Having beaten Spurs on Thursday and with the Merseyside derby midweek, are almost certainly going to see rotation in Arne Slot’s team. That’s going to mean the likes of Mohamed Salah, Alexis Mac Allister and Virgil van Dijk on the bench. The second string will consist of regular bench players like Waturu Endo and promising youngsters like Tyler Morton. Those are all good players but they won’t be familiar with each other and it might take Liverpool a little while to get going.

Meanwhile, Argyle have turned a corner under Miron Muslic and managed to pick up four points in their two recent games against Championship big boys Sunderland and West Brom. They made a number of January signings with their defence the main benefactor, with three of the five who’ll start on Sunday having not been at the club in December. While backing them to win is a double-digit bet, this Argyle team have enough about them to keep this respectable and we might even see Slot bring on his stars to ensure Liverpool get through.

Bet Builder Pick: Randell to commit 1+ fouls

They call Adam Randell the “Plymstock Pirlo” and while that’s a bit too much, he’s a talented midfielder and the heartbeat of this Argyle team. The 24-year-old has been a key player for countless managers and has continued to wear the armband under the new gaffer. His distribution is good but he’s not afraid to get amongst it, something he’ll need to do on Sunday in the heart of midfield.

You can’t afford to give a team of Liverpool’s quality time on the ball, or too much respect and Randell will do neither. He’s 8/15 to commit a foul, which is huge value given that he’s committed 0.9 fouls per game in the Championship this season and now faces a far better calibre of player. That’s a leg that’s well worth putting into your Bet Buillder, and you could even go for 2+ fouls at 9/4 if you’re feeling brace. That’s covered by the Paddy’ Super Sub, meaning that you’d get Randell’s replacement if he were to be taken off, which he very rarely is.

The Longshot: Nikola Katic to score first

Okay, now hear me out, you want a long-shot for the game, then look no further than one of Argyle’s January signings, centre-back Nikola Katic to score first. Firstly, this will be a Liverpool backline without Van Dijk and without Ibrahima Konate and missing two integral defenders could create issues at set-plays.

Rangers fans will be aware of Katic, with the Croatian a former fan favourite at Ibrox. Katic is 6”5 and a menace in the air. He’s not afraid to attack the ball with his head in defensive or offensive situations and could be a difference maker. Last week against West Brom the two defensive giants of Katic and fellow-January signing Maksym Talovierov (90/1 to score first) looked menacing from set pieces. Set-plays are a key part of Muslic’s philosophy and with the big Croatian is a prime candidate to score the opener and send Argyle fans into raptures.
