Our tipster James O'Rourke whips up five tasty picks for Tuesday's EFL action.

EFL tipster James O’Rourke is back with his best bets from Tuesday night’s action in the ChampionshipLeague One and League Two for a mighty-fine-looking Acca.

EFL Acca Betting Tips

7:45pm: Coventry City v QPR – QPR to win or draw
7:45pm: Watford v Leeds United – Leeds Half-Time
7:45pm: Birmingham City v Cambridge United – Birmingham to win to nil
7:45pm: Barrow v MK Dons – Barrow to win
7:45pm: Bradford v Accrington Stanley – Bradford to win and under 4.5 goals

7:45pm: Coventry City v QPR – QPR to win or draw

Coventry have turned into something of a streaky team. They are enduring spells of good and bad results rather than anything in between. Since around Christmas, the Sky Blues have had a sequence of one win in five and four victories in succession.

Now, Frank Lampard’s men have suffered consecutive defeats. Leeds comfortably beat them in league action, and then Ipswich put a rotated eleven in its place in the FA Cup on Saturday. QPR probably aren’t at the level of those opponents, but they are a handful on a going day in the Championship.

There is too much of an all-or-nothing feeling about Coventry to be super confident about them.

Rangers have recorded four straight league triumphs before then suffering back-to-back defeats. They resumed winning ways last time out against play-off chasing Blackburn before having the weekend off.

Now might be the time for Martí Cifuentes’ side to begin any positive run of results. This team has also lost only twice on the road to top-half opponents this season, those coming against Leeds and Blackburn.

Those also came in November or earlier; the R’s have stepped up a few gears since then. Their all-action and energetic style of play should help them greatly, so resting up at the weekend should help them greatly.

7:45pm: Watford v Leeds United – Leeds Half-Time

Leeds crashed out of the FA Cup at the weekend. Although that was a blow, Daniel Farke heavily rotated his team and they will soon get over losing to Millwall when they remember the Whites are top of the Championship.

They last lost a league match in November, so they shouldn’t lose any real momentum despite their cup exit. However, they will be keen to return to the pitch, so a midweek match suits them nicely.

Farke’s men have also kept clean sheets in four of their last five on the road, so they know exactly how to manage a game away from Elland Road.

Heading into this round of Tuesday and Wednesday contests, no team has been ahead at half-time more often than Leeds. They are also the joint-highest first-half scorers in the division, whilst only three other teams have conceded fewer goals in this period.

These facts, combined with the desire to right the weekend’s wrongs, should motivate them to get off to a strong start at Vicarage Road.

Also, Tom Cleverley has recently spoken about his concern with his team suffering from slow starts in their fixtures. He claimed it was ‘something to try to get to the bottom of’ and feels they can be ‘passive’ and struggle with their game management.

It is, therefore, no shock to see only bottom side Plymouth have a worse first-half record in the Championship. The Hornets have also shifted the joint-most number of goals in the opening 15 minutes of games.

7:45pm: Birmingham City v Cambridge United – Birmingham to win to nil

Birmingham had their moment in the national spotlight at the weekend when running Newcastle very close, but ultimately losing their Fourth Round FA Cup tie. Now, it is very much back to the bread and butter of League One action here.

After all, that was always the priority for Chris Davies’ team this season. They are top of the English third-tier table and possess a four-point lead at the summit, while having two games in hand over their nearest chasers, Wycombe.

City will lose no momentum despite defeat at the weekend, purely because they are unbeaten in league action since late November.

Tuesday’s home team are the only club in their league to concede less than 20 goals all campaign. Since losing to Shrewsbury late last year, they have played 13 league contests.

They have recorded nine clean sheets across those. Eight of those came in matches they won, so they know how to guard their goal and collect points in the process.

Cambridge, who are bottom of the table, travel to Birmingham looking to cause one of the shocks of the season. Taking recent points over the likes of Wycombe and Bolton may offer them a degree of hope, but Birmingham are a completely different animal at this level.

Garry Monk’s men have lost all their season meetings against current top-half clubs in League One. They will likely adopt defensive tactics here and try to frustrate Birmingham for as long as possible. The issue is that they constantly invite pressure and don’t retain the greatest goal threat.

7:45pm: Barrow v MK Dons – Barrow to win

With 17 games remaining, MK Dons’ play-off hopes are already hanging by a thread. That is something nobody would have expected to happen before a ball was kicked this season.

They were tipped to be amongst those pushing for the title, yet things have not gone anywhere near as hoped. A 1-0 home loss to Bromley on Saturday was a fourth defeat in six games.

Even more worryingly, they’ve won just twice in 12. With their season slowly starting to peter away into nothing, the big question is can they get up for a Tuesday night trip to Barrow?

Scott Lindsey’s side have also lost four in five on the road, conceding six to Newport and four to Walsall in that time. They have failed to keep a single away clean sheet all season in league and cup.

Now, Barrow hasn’t necessarily been in great shape lately. They recently went a whole month without winning, but there have been recent signs of recovery. This was most notably demonstrated at the weekend when they beat Gillingham 3-0 at Holker Street.

This made it two wins from their most recent three at home. Andy Whing is now starting to see the end product he has desired since becoming manager, and there is no reason for that not to continue on Tuesday night.

MK will look to dominate possession. They average 60.7% in League Two action across the season. However, Barrow recently defeated Grimsby 3-0 at home despite having less than 30% of the ball. In addition, they still created a higher xG.

One suspects something similar may happen here, especially since the two teams’ confidence trends diverge.

7:45pm: Bradford v Accrington Stanley – Bradford to win and under 4.5 goals

This is Bradford’s sixth consecutive season in League Two but they are holding serious hopes of jumping into League One for the next campaign. That is because The Bantams sit on the coattails of the three automatic promotion spots.

Three points here would propel them into those positions entering the final 16 games. There are strong reasons to suggest that should be the case given Graham Alexander’s team have lost just twice in 14 league battles.

They’ve recorded seven wins in the last eight in all competitions. Of those seven triumphs, the most recent five came alongside retaining a clean sheet. They have mastered the art of winning games in a professional and controlled manner.

City hold the joint-strongest League Two home record, where they have only been beaten once. They’re enjoying a seven-match winning streak at Valley Parade, all ending under 4.5 goals. Every one of their 29 league assignments has done so, too.

Accrington Stanley make the journey to West Yorkshire more so in hope rather than expectation. The remainder of their season is purely about avoiding relegation into the National League.

One defeat in four suggests a degree of improvement recently, but a concerning fact is that they have scored just two goals over their previous six in league and cup competitions.

This is especially concerning for Bradford, who have the joint-second-best defensive record in the division. All signs point towards a somewhat routine, perhaps uninspiring, solid home victory.
