Football Tips: Wednesday’s 9/1 Champions League Goalscorer Acca

Our tipster Sam Farley picks 4 to score.

Wednesday night is last chance saloon for teams looking to book a spot in the Champions League last 16, with Manchester City are amongst those sides needing a win to ensure a playoff spot as they host Club Brugge.

With the stakes high, teams will be relying on their strikers to fire and Sam Farley is back to deliver his value player picks for Wednesday’s games. All four player picks in here are also covered by Paddy’s Super Sub offer, meaning if a player is substituted, the pick carries over to his replacement.

FOUR TO SCORE IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE THIS WEDNESDAY

Man City v Club BruggeErling Haaland to score
Dortmund v ShakhtarSerhou Guirassy to score
Leverkusen v Sparta PragueFlorian Wirtz to score
Sporting Lisbon v BolognaViktor Gyokeres to score

Man City v Club Brugge – Erling Haaland to score

Pep Guardiola’s team are in a dicey position, currently lying 25th in the Champions League table, with only the top 24 continuing in the competition. City have just two wins in seven UCL games this season, but while they’re on the outside looking in, they have a great chance of still securing knockout football, but they need goals.

It’s win and in for City and Club Brugge offer a good opportunity for the victory. They’re averaging at least one goal conceded per game and we know how good City can be at home. Erling Haaland is still putting up good numbers despite his club’s struggles with 24 goals this season, of which six have come in this competition. He’s scored in three straight games and five goals in five games in 2025.

Dortmund v Shakhtar – Serhou Guirassy to score

Dortmund are 14th and in the play-off zone and just one point from the top eight that would secure a spot in the next round without the need for an extra game. The club sacked Nuri Sahin last week and will have Mike Tullberg overseeing this game against Shakhtar.

Shakhtar have given up 13 goals in seven games and face a Dortmund team who have Serhou Guirassy in great form. The Guinean is third in the race for the Champions League golden boot, with seven goals to his name, and a further eight in Bundesliga. He scored in the Bologna defeat last week and followed it with a goal and great performance against Werder Bremen.

Leverkusen v Sparta Prague – Florian Wirtz to score

There aren’t many players in world football playing at a higher level than Florian Wirtz right now, with the German the standout player in the Bundesliga. He has 18 goal contributions in Bundesliga, split between goals and assists, but has five goals in seven Champions League games.

Wednesday sees Leverkusen host Sparta Prague who have lost five games in a row in the competition. We’ve seen them take big defeats too, with Man City scoring five past them, Feyenoord four and Atletico Madrid six. With Wirtz in great form, and adept at moving between the lines and finding space, he should be able to get his name on the scoresheet, especially with Leverkusen knowing that a win would secure them a spot in the next round without the need to go into the playoffs.

Sporting Lisbon v Bologna – Viktor Gyokeres to score

Over the past 18 months we’ve seen Viktor Gyokeres become the most in-demand striker in Europe with the Swede racking up 22 goals in the Portuguese league this season, plus six in seven in the Champions League. He made his debut in this competition last season and now has 11 goals in 16 matches.

Sporting are on the cusp of dropping out of the playoff spots, and if they don’t win, there’s a very real chance they could get overtaken. Gyokeres didn’t score in Sporting’s 2-0 win over Nacional on Saturday but he’s scored in five back-to-back games before that, notching seven goals.
