Spurs -1
It’s been a difficult last month for Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou, with the manager coming under increasing pressure with performances not reaching the expectations of supporters, and the team still displaying naivety and a lack of a ‘plan B.’
However, the FA Cup is the perfect place to turn around that bad feeling and to follow up on their 1-0 win over Liverpool in the first leg of their League Cup semi.
Tamworth currently sit 16th in the National League with just eight wins in 24 games. While we’re going to see some rotation from Spurs, it’s very hard to see this being a giant-killing, especially with reports that there will be some regular starters in the team.
The non-league side will put up a fight, and it might be closer than some think, but we’ll still see Spurs win by a couple of goals. After all, they’re the second-highest-scoring team in the Premier League.
Both teams to score, no
One of the big issues for Tottenham’s recent form has been their defensive crisis, with Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Ben Davies, and Destiny Udogie all joining goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario on the sidelines. Despite missing those key players, we’ll likely still see experienced players like Radu Dragusin and Sergio Reguilon in the lineup on Sunday.
Add in some talented young stars like Archie Gray and a midfield that could feature either Yves BIssouma or Pape Sarr, and you’d have to expect a clean sheet from Spurs. This Tamworth team has achieved a miracle in reaching the third round of the FA Cup, but they’ve scored just 26 goals in 24 National League games, which tells you they have a pretty poor attack.
James Maddison to score or assist
One of the Tottenham regulars expected to play is James Maddison, and if the 28-year-old does start, then we can expect him to have a good performance. With the added time on the ball that he’ll be afforded to play against a National League side rather than one at the pinnacle of the game, he’ll be able to dictate play and have plenty of opportunities to set up teammates or even score.
Maddison has put up good numbers this season, scoring eight and setting up a further four goals in the Premier League, despite starting just 14 of his 20 games.
His technical ability and creativity should really shine against opposition of this level, and he could be deadly if Tottenham wins a freekick within sight of the goal.
With Maddison likely to be one of the first players substituted if Spurs are winning comfortably, it’s good to know you have the Super Sub promotion to fall back on, allowing his replacement to take his place in your bet if Maddison hasn’t scored or assisted a goal by the time he goes off.
Will Lankshear to have 2+ shots on target
A young striker who was in the Arsenal youth system and has played and scored for Spurs in the Europa League. With the Harry Kane comparisons, it’s no wonder that Spurs fans are excited about Will Lankshear. It’s very unlikely Lankshear will reach those heights but he’s a talented striker, a poacher, who does his best work in the penalty area.
He scored his first goal for the club against Galatasaray in November, connecting with a low cross across the box for a tap-in. He’s set to play down the middle this Sunday, meaning the 19-year-old should have plenty of chances to get shots at goal.
Mikey Moore to be fouled 2+ times
The final leg of the Bet Builder involved another promising young Tottenham talent. Just 17 years old, there is huge excitement around Mikey Moore, and he’s already played 10 times for the club. He’ll be working the flank on one side of the Spurs’ attack and tasked with getting balls into Lankshear or shooting himself.
He’s only had 83 minutes in the Premier League this season but has played three times in the Europa League and been a handful against far more well-known opponents, getting fouled 1.3 times per game. Given a start here, out wide against a National League team, it should give Moore a chance to run at players and win fouls. This could be a breakout game for the youngster, and it’s easy to see him getting fouled on multiple occasions.
