Celtic -1.5
Although Dundee come into this match on the back of a draw against Rangers last Thursday, Celtic are likely to be a very different beast to their Old Firm rivals and should claim a comfortable victory over the home side.
When the Hoops win, it does tend to be by multiple goals. Only Ross County and Aberdeen have been beaten by Brendan Rodgers’ side by just a single strike this term. The Dingwall club nearly repeated the feat over the weekend, but the Celtic had the resources and desire to score two late goals and claim a comfortable 4-1 success.
Rotation should not hurt Celtic too much heading into this one, so look for the green and white side to ease to a 12th successive win in this fixture.
Both teams to score, yes
Dundee have the capacity to hurt Celtic going forward, and indeed, the Dark Blues have scored in all but one home match they have played this season. The exception was against Ross County.
Celtic’s rotation may not stop them from winning the match, but it could play just enough havoc to allow Tony Docherty’s side the opportunity to extend their excellent record when it comes to finding the net at Dens Park. Dundee netted in two of their three losses against Celtic during 2024 and could do the same here.
Luke McCowan to score or assist
McCowan left Dundee to join Celtic earlier this season and may well get a rare outing in the starting XI at his old home. The 27-year-old is likely to make an impact, too. He has 0.89 goals and assists per 90 in the league this season, having hit the net 4 times while setting up 3 goals for his peers.
His knowledge of Dundee’s weaknesses is likely to prove an on-field asset to Rodgers’ side, with McCowan having scored in one of only two previous away starts for the Parkhead side. When he last started at Dens Park, he scored one and created another against Hearts in a 3-1 win while playing for Dundee.
Celtic to win 7 or more corners
When Celtic visited Dens Park on Boxing Day last season, they won a scarcely believable 23 corners, and while they are unlikely to hit such heights again, they do have a habit of registering a sizeable count in this statistic when facing Dundee.
Across the last five meetings between the teams dating back to the beginning of the 2023/24 season, the Hoops have picked up at least seven corners on four occasions.
Celtic average 9.32 corners in the Premiership this season as well as 7.91 when playing on the road, so this should be well within reach.
Dundee to win 3 or more corners
Dundee post a very respectable average of 5.0 corners per match in the Premiership when playing at Dens Park this season, and even last week, when up against Rangers, they managed to win three. They will look to at least match that figure against Celtic.
They picked up only a couple against the Hoops at Parkhead earlier this season but had little incentive to attack as they managed to keep the game tight for an hour, while at home against a rotated visiting side, they should be able to show more ambition.
Prior to that clash, they had won 13 corners in two matches against Rodgers’ side, so they are more than capable.
