Liverpool -1
Liverpool are extremely short-priced to get the win, but backing them with a 1-goal handicap offers more value.
Arne Slot’s side have been in devastating form of late, scoring 14 goals across their last three games, and there’s little to suggest that they won’t also be able to blow away a Manchester United team that is clearly struggling. Indeed, Reds fans must be relishing the incentive of adding to the Red Devils’ recent pain.
Ruben Amorim has failed to have an immediate impact at Old Trafford. He has seen United lose 6 of the games he has overseen, with each of the last three losses by two or more goals. Newcastle, Wolves and Bournemouth have beaten them in those fixtures.
Mohamed Salah to have 4+ shots
Salah has been an offensive machine for Liverpool this season, scoring or assisting in 14 of his last 15 starts. In recent games, though, his sheer number of shots has caught the eye. Over the previous three matches, Salah has had an enormous 19 shots, with 10 hitting the target.
The Egypt international, meanwhile, has had at least four shots in each of his last six Liverpool outings and has only dipped below three once in his last 12 appearances—that was against Real Madrid in the Champions League.
United will want to limit Salah’s impact, but recent history shows they can expect the in-form attacker to have at least four efforts.
Mohamed Salah to be fouled 2+ times
The left-back area has been a problem position for Amorim since arriving at the club, and it may be that he puts Diogo Dalot out of position in direct competition with Salah.
Dalot is Man Utd’s leading foul maker in the Premier League this season, with 27 fouls to his name at a rate of 1.45 per 90 minutes.
His tally has notably increased since Amorim’s arrival. Over the last 6 Premier League games, he has committed three fouls or more on four occasions.
Going up against Salah, the second-most fouled player in the Liverpool side, on 22 promises to be another difficult test. Look for the Egyptian to draw a couple of fouls as a result.
Alexis Mac Allister to commit 2+ fouls
Someone should have told Alexis Mac Allister that Christmas is meant to be the season of goodwill. Instead, the Argentine has racked up his foul count substantially over the festive period, committing at least two fouls in his last four Premier League matches, with five coming against Leicester and three against West Ham.
He is now Liverpool’s leading Premier League criminal, with 30 fouls committed and five yellow cards received (he is level with Dominik Szoboszlai on this second count).
Mac Allister will be asked to police Man United’s attacking midfielders, potentially including Bruno Fernandes, who wins 1.28 fouls per 90.
Amad Diallo to have 1+ shots
Amad Diallo has been the major positive for Man Utd in the early weeks of Amorim’s reign, with the Ivory Coast youngster showing an appetite to make a difference for his side.
This has manifested in a high shot count. With 30 attempts, he is third among Man Utd’s players in this metric in the Premier League this season, even if his accuracy has been found wanting.
Since the season’s opening day, when he failed to get a shot away against Fulham, Amad has gone on a streak of 11 consecutive Premier League starts when he has had at least one effort, while he has had at least two in nine of his last 10 starts.
