As the 2024/25 Premier League season dives head first into the Festive fixture list Paddy’s pal Mark Lawrenson is merrily continuing to gaze into his crystal ball over the busy Christmas period and beyond.
The Soccer Soothsayer has read the signs and crunched the numbers to produce his Premier League predictions over the coming days. Let’s see what the future ho, ho, holds…
Sunday 2.30pm: Leicester v Manchester City
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
I keep thinking, ‘How on earth are Manchester City ever going to win again?’ They were just as bad as they have been against Everton and they could, and should, have lost that game as well. Leicester were alright at Anfield but I’ll go with the champions to finally pull themselves together a bit. Leicester 0-2 Manchester City.
Sunday 3pm: Crystal Palace v Southampton
You have to fancy Crystal Palace to win this. Southampton lost again to West Ham and they did look better but they still aren’t good enough. It’s a big game for Palace because they can start to stretch away from the other teams at the bottom. Crystal Palace 2-0 Southampton.
Sunday 3pm: Everton v Nott’m Forest
Everton have had some good performances and, like I say, they could have beaten Manchester City in the last few minutes the other day. Nottingham Forest are flying but I just fancy a home win. Everton 2-1 Nottingham Forest.
Sunday 3pm: Fulham v Bournemouth
What a win that was for Fulham against Chelsea. I keep boring everyone going on about how well managed Fulham are and they’ve realised that they’ve got a good team to go with it now. I like Bournemouth too but I’m going with Fulham, just. Fulham 2-1 Bournemouth.
Sunday 3pm: Spurs v Wolves
Wolves have had a bit of the new manager bounce, beating Manchester United the other day. We all know Tottenham are all over the place but I’ll go for them to win this, that’s what they do. They’ll show up here and look like world beaters then get thumped next week. Tottenham 3-0 Wolves.
Sunday 5.15pm: West Ham v Liverpool
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
Liverpool win at West Ham regularly and Mo Salah normally scores a worldie against them. With the form Liverpool and Salah are in I can’t see that changing. West Ham 0-2 Liverpool.
Monday 7.45pm: Aston Villa v Brighton
Brighton are officially on a poor run now and Aston Villa went down at Newcastle with Jhon Duran getting sent off. This should be a proper match and I think it will be close but if they can keep 10 on the pitch I fancy Villa with home advantage. Aston Villa 2-1 Brighton.
Monday 7.45pm: Ipswich v Chelsea
Chelsea will have too much for Ipswich. Ipswich put up a good fight at Arsenal but the gulf in quality is just so stark. Ipswich 0-2 Chelsea.
Monday 8pm: Man Utd v Newcastle
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
Bruno Fernandes is suspended for Manchester United which will hurt them. Newcastle had that gift against Villa but this might be a bit of a stalemate. Manchester United 1-1 Newcastle.
Wednesday 5.30pm: Brentford v Arsenal
TV: TNT Sports 1 and TNT Sports Ultimate
Brentford are really good at home but Arsenal are a different kettle of fish. They ground it out against Ipswich on Friday night and it could be more of the same here. Brentford 0-2 Arsenal.
