Football Tips: Monday night’s 9/1 Premier League Multi-Match Bet Builder

Sam Farley makes the case for a fine flutter on Monday night.

If a Premier League game is played at night but not shown on the telly, does it make a sound? Damned if I know, but we might find out on Monday evening as not one but two games kick off at 7:45pm, and there’s not a desk surrounded by three pundits and a presenter anywhere near the touchline to ping cross-field balls.

That’s not discouraged our footy tipster Sam Farley from laying a little love on Aston Villa v Brighton and Ipswich v Chelsea in his Monday night Multi-Match Bet Builder. Four of Sam’s picks are covered by Paddy’s Super Sub offer too, meaning if a player is substituted, the pick carries over to his replacement.

Monday’s Multi-Match Bet Builder tips

* Both games kickoff at 7:45pm

Ipswich Town v Chelsea
Chelsea to win
Cole Palmer to score or assist
Cole Palmer to be fouled 2+ times

Aston Villa v Brighton
Both teams to score, yes
Ollie Watkins to score or assist
John McGinn to be fouled 2+ times

Ipswich Town v Chelsea – Chelsea to win

Chelsea suffered a 2-1 defeat to local rivals Fulham on Boxing Day and will be desperate to put things right against Premier League strugglers Ipswich. That was only Chelsea’s third defeat of the season, and they’re still within touching distance of leaders Liverpool, just seven points ahead of them.

Ipswich have lost four of their last five games and won’t be able to handle Chelsea’s attack, with the London club being the third-highest-scoring team in the Premier League, while Ipswich has conceded in 14 straight games.

Cole Palmer to score or assist

The young Englishman is having an incredible season for Chelsea and is arguably the second-best player in the Premier League behind Mohamed Salah right now.

He’s averaging a goal or assist every game, having found the back of the net on 12 occasions and set up a further six goals in his 18 Premier League appearances this season. He scored Chelsea’s only goal in their defeat to Fulham and will be the main threat against Ipswich.

Cole Palmer to be fouled 2+ times

Given that Palmer is the best player in the Chelsea team right now and in red-hot form, it shouldn’t be a surprise to see teams struggle to deal with him. He’s already been fouled 41 times in the Premier League for Chelsea this season, and to put that into context, the next player on the list is Moises Caicedo, who has been fouled 24 times.

With Palmer driving at players and averaging 2.35 fouls won per 90 minutes played, we’re going to take him to be fouled two or more times against Ipswich, who are giving up the fourth most fouls per game in the league.

Aston Villa v Brighton – Both teams to score, yes

Both Aston Villa and Brighton have fallen off after strong starts to the season, with neither team keeping things tight enough at the back. They’re both allowing more than one goal per game on average and their attacks are doing the same at the other end.

We’ve seen Both Teams to Score land in 66.7% of Aston Villa’s Premier League games, including four of their last five at Villa Park. Meanwhile, BTTS has also landed in all but two of Brighton’s road trips this season, including their past five away matches.

Ollie Watkins to score or assist

The breakout of Jhon Duran has temporarily side-lined Ollie Watkins, but with the young Colombian now banned for three games, it’s time for Watkins to reclaim his spot. Despite a poor season by his standards, he’s still scored seven and set up a further three.

He scored and assisted in his last Premier League start at the beginning of December and will be hungry to prove a point to Unai Emery.

John McGinn to be fouled 2+ times

One of Villa’s best players over the past couple of seasons has been John McGinn, with the Scotsman being their main link between midfield and attack.

Opposition teams are well aware of this, too, and he’s been fouled more than anybody else in the Aston Villa team, with 36 fouls won in 16 games. If you break it down by minutes on the field, he’s getting fouled 2.81 times per match.
