Bournemouth v Crystal Palace – Bournemouth win
Bournemouth have been going great guns in the Premier League this season and they’ve won four out of their last five, also going undefeated in that time. They’ve beaten Tottenham and Manchester United in that run and should make light work of Crystal Palace on home soil.
Palace, for their part, looked to have turned a corner with their excellent 3-1 win away at bitter rivals Brighton but they’ve since suffered successive losses to Arsenal in the league and Carabao Cup, conceding eight goals in those two games.
Palace’s only two wins in all competitions in their last nine games have both come away from home but the Cherries have a good record in front of their own fans. All things considered it’s got to be Bournemouth to win.
Chelsea v Fulham – Both teams to score? Yes
There’s a west London derby on the 26th with Fulham making the very short trip to face Chelsea. It is tempting to say that Chelsea will win this match but The Cottagers have picked up some impressive results of late, taking a point from Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham in their last five outings which have seen them draw four and win one.
Chelsea have been in blistering form but their run of eight-straight wins in all competitions came to an end at the hands of Sean Dyche and his Everton charges last time out.
Both teams had scored in Chelsea’s last five before that goal-less draw while the number was the same for Fulham in a period that included those games against some of the biggest boys in the league.
Chelsea might come out on top but it won’t be without a fight. Based on recent form it would be a surprise if both teams to score doesn’t pay.
Newcastle v Aston Villa – Both Teams To Score? Yes
This should be an absolutely belting game as Aston Villa head north to take on Newcastle. Villa have sorted their form out in the last five, with four wins and a loss under their belt after a tricky run of no wins in eight in all competitions.
Newcastle have won three on the bounce, scoring 11 and conceding just one, though a fixture list of Leicester and Brentford (Carabao Cup) at home and Ipswich away is certainly not the toughest.
Villa, on the other hand, have beaten RB Leipzig and Manchester City in their last three matches with both teams scoring in four of their last five. With Newcastle back among the goals themselves, both teams to score looks a good play.
Nott’m Forest v Spurs – Both teams to score? Yes
Again, it is tempting to join the Tottenham pile on and back Nottingham Forest to win this match. But the problem with Spurs is that it’s impossible to know when they are about to lurch from the ridiculous back to the sublime.
Pretty much the only thing you can rely on Spurs for is goals and, win or lose, they see an eye-watering number of the ruddy things. Their last five games in all competitions have delivered a monster 30 goals for and against combined.
It adds up to six goals a game so you can see where we’re going here. Forest are in good form and have four wins in their last five, with only Manchester City temporarily rediscovering their groove to beat them 3-0 at The Etihad.
You can almost disregard anything Forest have done because lads, it’s Spurs, so we’ll have another both teams to score.
Southampton v West Ham – West Ham to win
We’ll finish with 2024/25 whipping boys Southampton who will probably give a late Christmas present to West Ham. Saints have picked up six points from 17 Premier League games, avoiding defeat on just four occasions.
The Hammers have been underwhelming this year but they are 14th with 20 points from five wins, five draws and seven losses. Southampton don’t score many and they concede loads so, on paper, there’s no argument for Southampton getting anything here.
West Ham have picked up a bit an their last three games have seen an away win at Newcastle and credible draws with Bournemouth and Brighton. That form should be enough to them to take all three points on the south coast.
