Chelsea to win
Chelsea have an excellent head-to-head record with Tottenham over the last 5 years, much of which they have spent looking up at their London rivals in the league. Now it’s the Blues who are back on top, and they can push Ange Postecoglou’s side to the brink of crisis with a victory in this clash.
The Blues, who have the second-best away record in the league behind Liverpool, have won each of their last four matches, including three on the road. After a handsome 5-1 success over Southampton in midweek, they will feel confident coming into this clash.
On the other hand, Tottenham were beaten by Bournemouth in midweek and have won only one of their last six matches.
Over 4.5 cards
Chelsea stand at the very top of the yellow card count in the Premier League this season, with 47 accumulated in their 14 games – an average of 3.36 per game. Tottenham’s average, meanwhile, is 2.14.
In midweek, Enzo Maresca’s side did not see a single card against Saints, but after 12 successive Premier League matches in which they had picked up at least 2, this is unlikely to last.
Last season, this was a fiery affair, with nine cards shown in total, including two reds to Spurs.
Referee Anthony Taylor averages 4.38 cards per match this season, which will likely increase in this clash. During his last Chelsea game in September, he showed 14 cards as Chelsea beat Bournemouth 1-0.
Nicolas Jackson to have 1+ shots on target
Nicolas Jackson has been one of the form finishers in the Premier League this term, with the Senegal international settling nicely into the role of Chelsea no. 9 with eight top-flight goals to date after a mixed first campaign.
While he doesn’t do big volumes, what he does do is consistency. The former Villarreal striker has managed a shot on target in every Chelsea game he has featured this season – even in a 28-minute cameo against Servette in the Conference League play-off round.
Jackson scored a hat-trick in this fixture last season and was also on target at Stamford Bridge in the return match.
Cole Palmer to have 3+ shots
No Chelsea player has managed more shots this season than Cole Palmer, who has had 48 in total. This is the third-highest tally in the whole of the Premier League.
He has had at least three shots in seven of his last nine Premier League games, except for a home encounter against Newcastle in which he scored with his sole effort and a trip to Leicester last month.
Palmer is currently at the peak of his powers, having scored in the last two games and mustered an astonishing 11 shots in these fixtures.
Spurs’ leaky defence will struggle to contain him.
Cole Palmer to be fouled 2+ times
Palmer is also likely to win a heap of fouls for Chelsea. It’s a subject that he specialises in. Only three players in the league have helped draw more free kicks this season: Bruno Guimaraes, James Maddison and Anthony Gordon.
The former Manchester City youngster has been active away from home recently. Since the September international break, he has won at least three fouls in five of his six league starts when playing on the road.
With Spurs central midfielders – Pape Matar Sarr, Maddison and Yves Bissouma – averaging more than one foul per 90, Palmer will likely maintain his high count for drawing fouls in this match.
