Fantasy Premier League: Invest in Villa’s forwards & Marcus Rashford for Gameweek 15

Nathon Woodhead breaks down Gameweek 15 with some sage advice.

Gameweek 14 saw Liverpool dropping points for only the second time this season when Newcastle held them in a pulsating 3-3 draw. Elsewhere, Man City finally won a game, and Arsenal beat Man United 2-0.

At the other end of the table, Leicester and Everton got two important wins, while Wolves, Southampton and Ipswich all lost.

Once again, Mo Salah demonstrated the value of his £13.3 price tag by rewarding his 61.1% owners with 18 points. This topped the round scoring chart for GW14 and put him on 151 points in total, way ahead of second-placed Cole Palmer (107) and Bukayo Saka (101) in third.

There are differentials, and then there’s the complete unknown. Yes, we are referring to Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen, who provided a 15-point return to the 0.1% who own him, having scored the only goal of the game against Spurs, and keeping a sheet in the process. We don’t expect this will be a common occurrence so there shouldn’t be a clamber to bring the 19-year-old into your side, but maybe keep an eye to see if he keeps his place the starting XI.

On the topic of defenders, set-piece specialists Arsenal had two goalscoring defenders against Manchester United, with William Saliba (15) and Jurrier Timber (14) both scoring double digits.

The Gunners seem to be back to their best, which makes any of the defensive unit worthy investments for festive fixtures against Fulham, Everton, Palace, and Ipswich. How many clean sheets amongst that lot?

In our Gameweek 14 preview, we called it right with a clean sheet for Man City (finally) and a bundle of attacking returns for Chelsea against poor Southampton. We’d go as far as saying both of those things could be on the cards again in GW15, as the champions go to Palace and high-flying Chelsea visits a very unpredictable Spurs outfit.

Win or die for West Ham and Wolves

Struggling-hell. You must assume whichever manager loses the West Ham v Wolves clash will lose their job. Both sides are out of form and out of luck, but we think Wolves are just that little bit worse.

Paddy’s Pro Tip

Julen Lopetegui to survive for another week with West Ham securing the points. He’s been missing for most of the season, but Niclas Fullkrug is back and will provide an attacking return to the 0.9% who own him.

Goals at Leicester

Leicester v Brighton has goals written all over it, not necessarily because the forwards are dynamite but because neither team knows how to keep a clean sheet (Brighton three/Leicester one, so far this season).

Paddy’s Pro Tip

Remove all defensive assets you might own from Leicester and Brighton. I mean, if you own any defenders from Leicester, are you taking FPL seriously at all or just in it for the banter?

We are always so mean about Southampton

Saints fans, it isn’t personal, and we are sorry, but you guys are rubbish. The worst part for Southampton is that many of the goals conceded come from defensive errors that could have been avoided. Why does every team feel the need to play out from the back like a peak Barcelona? It’s mental.

Paddy’s Pro Tip

Ollie Watkins or Morgan Rogers for your GW15 captain.

Amirom roulette

We don’t really understand what new Man United boss Ruben Amorim is doing concerning squad rotation. Rasmus Hojlund scores twice and gets dropped. Marcus Rashford scores twice and gets dropped. Having been a substitute against Arsenal, we expect Marcus to start against Nottingham Forest.

Paddy’s Pro Tip

Forest seem to have lost that early-season spark. Having come unstuck in Manchester against City mid-week, we predict more of the same on Saturday, with Rashford providing the goals.
