7:30pm: Everton v Wolves
Wolves to win
Wolves’ trip to Goodison Park sees a clash between the worst attack in the league and the worst defence in the league.
Everton, who have not scored in four consecutive games, have scored just ten goals in 13 league games to date, the joint-worst attacking record in the league along with basement club Southampton.
Wolves, on the other hand, have been the embodiment of entertainment in recent weeks, scoring four goals in their win over Fulham two weeks ago and conceding four in their defeat to Bournemouth this Saturday.
Gary O’Neill’s side have conceded a whopping 32 goals in 13 games this season, by far the most of any team in the division.
Leicester, who have conceded the second-most goals in the division, have conceded just 27 goals.
After a wretched start to the season, Wolves appear to be turning the corning and can continue their upward momentum against an Everton side that appears to be sliding in the opposite direction.
Sean Dyche’s side have taken just two points from their last four games and are slipping back towards the pack in the battle to escape the relegation zone.
An away win seems like the smart bet on Wednesday night.
7:30pm: Southampton v Chelsea
Chelsea -1
The season is only one-third complete, but Southampton’s Premier League race already looks run.
The Saints look destined for the drop in their first season back in the top flight, taking just five points from their first 13 games and conceding 25 goals.
They were much improved in the narrow defeat against Liverpool in their last fixture at St. Mary’s, but they are unlikely to make much headway against an in-form Chelsea side.
Chelsea, under Enzo Maresca, are barely recognisable from the shambolic performances of the past two seasons.
They have lost just twice all season and deservedly occupy third place in the league, a remarkable transformation from the side that routinely embarrassed themselves over the past 24 months.
Sunday’s 3-0 win over Villa laid down a marker and they should have no trouble taking another three points on Wednesday.
7:30pm: Manchester City v Nottingham Forest
Manchester City -1
It is now seven games without a win for Manchester City in all competitions, who have lost six of their last seven games.
It’s an unprecedented run of form for a Pep Guardiola side and their defeat to Liverpool on Sunday all but ensures that they will not win the league for a fifth season in a row.
City have to get back to winning ways at some point, however, and Wednesday seems as likely a game as ever for that winless streak to end.
Nottingham Forest have far exceeded all expectations this season and can already assume that they will remain in the league for another year at least, a stark change from the close shaves they endured in each of their previous two Premier League campaigns.
However, Forest have struggled in their last two games against elite opposition, losing by two against Newcastle and by three against Arsenal.
They have yet to score at the Etihad in their previous two visits since their return to the Premier League in 2022, conceding eight goals in the process.
City can put a horrid six-week spell behind them with a comfortable win on Wednesday.
8:15pm: Aston Villa v Brentford
Aston Villa to win
It is now eight games without a win in all competitions for Aston Villa, who have slipped into the bottom half of the Premier League.
They face a Brentford side that has been one of the great entertainers in the league this season, scoring a whopping 26 goals so far. Only Tottenham have scored more.
Brentford have scored 18 goals in their last seven games, scoring four goals or more on three separate occasions.
However, the majority of those goals have come at home, while all of Brentford’s six wins this season have also come at home.
They have struggled badly on the road, taking just one point from their six away games to date – a 0-0 draw against Everton.
This is a huge opportunity for Aston Villa to get back to winning ways and alarm bells will surely be ringing if they fail to take it.
