With Dortmund 10 points back from runaway leaders Bayern Munich, the first Klassiker of the season looks less of a title clash and more of a regular rivalry. However, Nuri Sahin’s men have the best home record in the Bundesliga, winning all six of their games on home soil, and will be keen to upset a Bayern side who hold the league’s best away record.
Munich have won their last seven matches in all competitions, with an aggregate score of 18-0, so you’d be forgiven for thinking the result is a foregone conclusion. Luckily, we can back a lovely looking player based Bet Builder to keep it interesting!
Ramy Bensebaini to commit 2 or more fouls
Our first two selections come from the player fouls markets with our first candidate being Dortmund full back Ramy Bensebaini. The Algerian has been getting stuck in this season, committing 2.07 fouls per 90 in the Bundesliga. He’s made two or more fouls in five of his last six games in all competitions and has been booked in four of those.
Bensebaini will be opposing tricky winger Michael Olise, who has been something of a foul magnet in his debut season in German,y where he’s drawn 2.97 fouls per 90. He’ll also have to keep tabs on Jamal Musiala, if he drifts right, and with the German international drawing 2.44 fouls per 90 himself, it’s easy to see Bensebaini being kept very busy.
Leon Goretzka to commit 2 or more fouls
Another player who we can expect to be involved in plenty of altercations is Bayern midfielder Leon Goretzka. The German has been brought in from the cold in recent weeks, due to the injury to Joao Palhinha, and he’s wasted no time in drawing attention from the referee with seven fouls in three games. He’s also got a consistent record in this fixture, averaging 1.83 fouls per 90 against Dortmund across 12 head-to-heads, landing two or more in seven of those games.
In the middle he’ll be tasked with containing Nmecha, Brandt and Sabitzer who combined have drawn 3.6 fouls per 90 this season. Dortmund’s opposition central midfielders have committed 25 fouls between them, across their last eight games in all competitions, and with Goretzka still getting up to full fitness, he may be a yard off the pace too.
Nico Schlotterbeck to be fouled 1 or more times
Moving into the fouled market, we also need big Nico Schlotterbeck to be fouled at least once. The centre back has drawn plenty of attention from opposition strikers this season, being fouled 1.05 times per 90. This includes drawing 11 fouls in his last eight appearances and being fouled at least once in seven of those matches.
Key to this leg of our Bet Builder will be Nico’s battle with Harry Kane. England’s captain has recaptured some of his best form this season, with 20 goal involvements in 11 Bundesliga games and opposition defenders are having to resort to fouls to stop him. He’s been fouled just shy of once per game this season, but having drawn five fouls across Klassiker ties last season, Dortmund’s tactics to deal with him are clear.
Jamie Gittens to have 2 or more shots
The final piece of our puzzle is for Jamie Gittens to have 2 or more shots. The young Englishman is looking to follow in the footsteps of Jude Bellingham, making a name for himself in front of the Yellow Wall and he’s certainly impressing. 10 goal involvements in 18 appearances in a Dortmund shirt this season has seen him become a potent attacking outlet resulting in 2.54 shots per 90 in the league this season.
Gittens’ recent form for shots is excellent and he appears to be growing in confidence with three or more shots in four of his last five games. Whilst we can expect Bayern to win this game, Dortmund’s average of 19.2 shots per game at home suggests they’ll go down swinging, and Gittens looks the pick of the players to get on board with a few shots.
