Liverpool to Win
Liverpool are rightly favourites to take the points against Man City on Sunday, with Arne Slot’s side the form team in Europe right now. The Reds have only failed to win two games all season, and are on a run of six successive wins, that continued in the Champions League in midweek as they overcame Real Madrid rather comfortably 2-0.
By contrast, Man City look lost. They incredibly squandered a 3-0 midweek lead at home to Feyenoord, to settle for a 3-3 draw against the Dutch side. Although this bust an unprecedented five-game losing streak, it served to ask more questions of Guardiola’s out-of-sorts squad.
Both Teams to Score: Yes
City have not been at their best in front of goal in this difficult period, but they still create chances regularly. Indeed, in their last four matches, they have generated an xG of 2.1 in each game. The volume of goals they expect might not have followed, but it’d be foolish to write off such a dangerous attacking side.
Liverpool have had no issues finding the net. The Reds are on a run of scoring at least twice in seven successive matches dating back over a month. Everything looks to be clicking for Slot’s side offensively and it would be a huge shock if they failed to score.
Mohamed Salah to be fouled 1+ times
Mohamed Salah is in his most prolific period of the season when it comes to winning fouls. Across his last five outings for the Reds, he has picked up at least one free-kick, while he has drawn multiple fouls on four occasions.
Josko Gvardiol has been in miserable form at left back for Man City since the international break and will not be looking forward to this encounter. Prior to the Feyenoord clash, he’d given away a foul in seven successive starts for City, and up against one of the world’s best wingers hee’s liable to be pulled into more trouble.
Ryan Gravenberch to be fouled 1+ times
No Liverpool player has been fouled more in the Premier League this season than Gravenberch, who has drawn 24 fouls at a rate of two per 90 minutes. This is the highest figure of anyone who has featured for at least one complete game under Slot.
In his last ten Premier League outings, he has won fouls in nine of these, and multiple fouls on eight occasions.
The Netherlands star could find himself head-to-head with Matheus Nunes in midfield, with the City player committing at least one foul in each of his four Premier League starts.
Erling Haaland to have 2+ Shots on Target
If Guardiola’s side are misfiring, it’s not because Erling Haaland’s strikes at goal are being limited. Indeed, the Norway international has been getting a huge volume of efforts at goal even during this difficult period.
Haaland has had at least two shots on target in each of his last nine matches for club and country, while he has a couple of efforts on goal in 14 of his last 16.
Although he managed only one shot on target at Anfield last season, he bounced back with a couple against the Reds at the Etihad, and given his price, he looks a good shot to ask questions of the hosts.
