Bristol Rovers v Crawley: Bristol Rovers to win

Matt Taylor was on the brink of the sack as Bristol Rovers manager after four losses on the bounce, but the Gas are now sitting more comfortably in 16th. There is a stark contrast between Rovers’ home and away form.

They’ve lost five and won just one of their seven games on the road, compared to four wins from seven at home. Lowly Crawley Town are the visitors to the Memorial Stadium on Saturday. The Red Devils’ unexpected promotion to League One gutted their squad and management staff and they’ve struggled to adapt since.

Now under the stewardship of the inexperienced Rob Elliot, they sit 21st in the league, two points off Leyton Orient who have a game in hand. Since their two wins from their opening two league games, Crawley have won just once in the last 13.

Like Bristol Rovers, Elliot’s side have lost five and won one of their seven away league goals, scoring just three times in the process. A drab 0-0 draw at fellow strugglers Burton thwarted a run of five straight league-away defeats, but they face another tough test away at a rejuvenated Bristol Rovers.

Accrington v Swindon: Accrington Draw No Bet

Accrington Stanley struggled massively at the start of the season, drawing three and losing five of their opening eight games. Since then, their only loss has come away at league favourites MK Dons in a smash-and-grab win for the hosts.

This run of games included a 2-1 win at Gillingham, a 0-0 draw to second-place Walsall and a 3-0 win at Chesterfield. John Doolan has built a talented young side and is slowly reaping the rewards.

Swindon are in disarray off the pitch and fan resentment towards the club hierarchy is growing by the day. On the pitch, Ian Holloway was appointed as the new manager, four years after his disastrous spell at Grimsby.

While he started with cup wins against Colchester and Tottenham U21s, his side fell to a 3-1 defeat to MK Dons and there are question marks over his appointment. The Robins currently sit 22nd in the league just two points clear of bottom of the table Morecambe.

Their only away win came in a dramatic 2-3 victory over fellow strugglers Cheltenham, so Holloway’s side would be lucky to escape Accrington with any points.

Barrow v AFC Wimbledon- Barrow Draw No Bet

The two meanest defences in League Two meet at Holker Street in what should be a cagey clash. Barrow sit three points above Saturday’s visitors but AFC Wimbledon have three games in hand. Stephen Clemence’s side boasts the third-best home record in the league, having lost just once – coming in a shock defeat against rivals Morecambe.

While the Dons have been impressive this season, they have struggled away from home and have the worst away record in the league. Johnnie Jackson is a notoriously pragmatic manager and sets his side up to not lose away from home. This has hurt their form on their travels, scoring an average of 0.5 goals per game.

Against a Barrow side that have scored in all bar one home game, Wimbledon may have to score at least one to get any sort of result – something they have failed to do in four of six away games.

MK Dons v Cheltenham: MK Dons To Win

Despite being priced as the favourites to win the league on the first game of the season, MK Dons’ start to the season flattered to deceive. Mike Williamson was on the brink of the sack, but Carlisle poached the 41-year-old, giving MK ammunition to appoint the highly coveted Scott Lindsey of Crawley.

Under his guise, they’ve picked up 17 points in eight league games and have skyrocketed to sixth in the league. After missing out on the playoffs last year, the Dons will fancy their chances of building momentum and securing a top three finish. A win against Cheltenham could put them into the top three.

The Robins suffered relegation from League One last season and have been poor in their return to League Two. Michael Flynn’s side are 16th in the league and are unbeaten in four league games, despite being second-best in three of these.

While their recent positive run would suggest an upturn in form, the underlying number show that they are riding their luck.

Newport County v Grimsby: Over 2.5 Goals

15th place Newport County host 7th place Grimsby at Rodney Parade in what promises to be an entertaining affair.

The Exiles have a respectable home record, picking up 13 points from seven games, and losing just twice. Grimsby have been stronger away than at home, winning their last five on the road.

Nelson Jardim’s side have scored 12 and conceded 11 goals in seven matches at Rodney Parade, for an average of 3.29 goals. A joint league-high 6/7 home games have seen over 2.5 goals.

Grimsby have scored 19 goals and conceded 25, with their games averaging 2.93 goals. On their travels, the Mariners have only failed to score once, coming in the opening day 1-0 defeat at Fleetwood.

David Artell’s side have seen 10/15 go over 2.5 goals, putting them joint for this statistic with Saturday’s hosts, Newport County.
