This is an interesting match-up. Scotland have got some players like Billy Gilmour and Scott McTominay both playing for Napoli now and that’s going to really help them as players. Those two players can be your core, plus all of the others around them, some of their other players are now also playing abroad in Italy and around Europe and Scotland have never really had that. That’s really going to help the team.
I watched Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League recently and they had a couple of the younger national team players playing. Croatia are, of course, an aging team and in that 23-30 age bracket there’s not much but under 23 they’re starting to blood some players. They’re still a good outfit though.
Going to Scotland is hard, though. It’s a tough away game, and I see this one ending 1-1 in a very Steve-Clarke-type of game.
I don’t think it’ll be all that exciting to watch, although I can see Scott McTominay scoring. He always seems to produce the goods for Scotland. He just runs and runs, and I’ve been a big fan of his for a while. Every time I watch him play, I know what I’m seeing. Some people will say he wasn’t good enough for Man United, but I wouldn’t agree. Every time I’ve seen him play, I’ve been impressed by him.
