Galatasaray v Wolfsburg – Alexandra Popp to score
TV: DAZN, 5:45pm
Wolfsburg have begun their Champions League campaign uncharacteristically, losing their first two to Lyon and Roma. The two-time winners must pull their fingers out to progress to the knockout stages.
They travel to the bottom of Group A Galatasaray, who are only below the Germans thanks to a -8 goal difference. It will be a difficult night for the Turkish side who, on paper, are not quite at Wolfsburg’s level.
Goals will be needed, and despite Alexander Popp retiring from international football last month, she is still her club’s main threat.
She has yet to score in the Champions League but has five goals in nine games in the Frauen Bundesliga and needs to turn up in Turkey.
Real Madrid v FC Twente – Both teams to score, yes
TV: DAZN, 5:45pm
Chelsea are running away in Group A, making this match essential to determining the best of the rest. Real Madrid and FC Twente lost their games against the Blues but won against Celtic, leaving them in close running for second place.
The Spaniards suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat at Stamford Bridge before beating Celtic 4-0 at home on matchday two. Meanwhile, the Dutch side won 2-0 in Glasgow on matchday one before falling 3-1 at home to Chelsea.
Crucially, both teams have scored in all their matches, giving them a good chance of doing so again here. Twente may be the underdogs here, but after managing to score against Chelsea, there’s no saying that they can’t get one against Real Madrid.
Roma v Lyon – Roma +2 and Over 3.5 goals
TV: DAZN, 8pm
Roma pulled off a shock win on matchday one against Wolfsburg, giving them a dream start to their Champions League campaign. They followed that up by demolishing Galatasaray 6-1 in Turkey.
That said, they are still huge underdogs when record eight-time champions Lyon come to visit. The French side have adjusted to life without manager Sonia Bompastor, remaining unbeaten in all competitions.
Goals will be on the menu in Rome. The hosts have scored 50 goals in their 12 games this season, while the away side has scored 33 in 10. However, Roma have also conceded ten goals in nine league games and are fifth in Serie A, leaving them open to a potentially long night and heavy defeat.
