RB Leipzig to win
Celtic have started the Champions League well but face a tough challenge against RB Leipzig. The Hoops have already lost 7-1 to a Borussia Dortmund team lower in the Bundesliga than their opponents, while their recent home European record is not what it once was; they have lost four of their last eight games.
Leipzig, who suffered defeat for the first time this season domestically to BVB at the weekend, have lost their first three Champions League matches and travel to Glasgow really meaning business. They were here just a couple of years ago on similar duty and secured a 2-0 victory.
Benjamin Sesko to have 1+ shots on target
With shots on target in 12 of his last 14 matches for club and country, Benjamin Sesko has been absolutely prolific when it comes to finding the target for RB Leipzig this season.
He has been their go-to player in the Champions League, with five shots on target across the three fixtures thus far.
The Slovenia international, who scored against Dortmund at the weekend, also saw a run of four successive games in which he had at least two shots on target come to an end against BVB. He will be a major danger for Celtic.
Over 2.5 goals
Both Celtic and Leipzig are typically involved in high-scoring games, with their combined Champions League matches producing a dizzying 23 strikes, an average of 3.75 per match.
This encounter, meanwhile, is likely to be one in which both teams go all-out to win. Celtic will be on the brink of going through with victory while Leipzig are crying out for points, and with Inter and Aston Villa to follow this match, it is surely one they must win. This promises to be an open encounter.
Celtic, in particular, gets involved in games where the ball regularly finds the net. 13 of the 16 they have played this season have seen over 2.5 goals, while each of Leipzig’s last three has brought up at least three goals.
Daizen Maeda to be Commit 2+ fouls
Maeda looks a big price to commit fouls given that he leads Celtic in this regard with 20 this season. That works out at 2.04 per 90 minutes.
In recent weeks, he has gone foul-crazy. In seven of his last eight appearances in the Premiership and Champions League, he has committed at least a couple of fouls, including a brief cameo off the bench against Dundee last week.
With a high-energy style, the Japanese winger is likely to draw the referee’s attention in this charged encounter.
Over 3.5 cards
Referee Benoit Bastien is not shy of showing a card, and with much on the line at Celtic Park on Tuesday there’s likely to be a flurry of yellows and potentially even a red.
Bastien has delivered 48 yellow cards in the ten games he has officiated this season plus another three red cards. He averages 5.1 cards per game.
Celtic have picked up five cards across their three fixtures while their German rivals have collected seven. Combined, this makes for an average of four per match – a figure that should be easily attainable here given the atmosphere and the stakes at play.
