Tuesday’s Footy Acca tips

*All games are televised on Sky Sports+

7:45pm Bristol City v Sheffield United – Under 2.5 Goals
7:45pm Oxford v Hull – Both Teams To Score, Yes
7:45pm Stockport v Wycombe – Both Teams To Score, Yes
8pm Swansea v Watford – Under 2.5 Goals

Bristol City v Sheffield United – Under 2.5 Goals

Bristol City extended their unbeaten run to eight games with a fine away success at Preston North End on Saturday. They’ll be especially pleased for the three points given they headed into that contest drawing six in seven. City now sit on the fringe of the play-off positions and are excited by the prospect of facing Sheffield United.

Liam Manning’s side have kept three clean sheets across their previous six encounters, including versus the likes of Leeds and Middlesbrough. Over the course of this eight-game streak, five of those contained two goals or fewer. They play quite a similar style to Sheffield United, meaning this match could see periods where each team effectively cancels the other out.

The Blades are going great guns themselves. Back-to-back losses raised some questions but back-to-back wins of their own answered them emphatically. Those setbacks remain their only league losses of the campaign, and Chris Wilder has brought back good feelings for Bramall Lane.

What is quite remarkable is that United are on a 12-match run in league and cup where the match has finished below 2.5 goals. Several clean sheets are a part of this but Wilder’s side have also failed to score over two team goals in any league contest all season.

Plenty is pointing towards quite a tactical affair at Ashton Gate, but also a low-scoring one.

Oxford v Hull – Both Teams To Score, Yes

Oxford’s rather worrying slide down the Championship table continued at the weekend when a then-out-of-form Swansea departed Kassam Stadium with all three points.

That 2-1 defeat means Des Buckingham’s side has gone eight games without victory. Before suffering consecutive defeats, they were enduring a five-match drawing run, but they are very much now in a slump.

In their defence, they’ve had some tough fixtures in that period, even more so remembering this is a newly-promoted team. They’ve at least proved they can compete at this level, and Oxford certainly have nothing to fear from Hull, who aren’t exactly in great shape themselves of late particularly as the home side are often good for a goal.

In fact, The U’s have scored in all bar two league matches this season, and those were against high-flying Sunderland and Burnley.

On the flip side, Oxford has just three clean sheets in league action, which naturally raises the prospect of both teams netting on Tuesday night. Eight of Hull’s 13 league fixtures this season also saw both teams score, including four of their six played on the road. Tim Walter’s team is winless in five and is on a three-game streak of matches, finishing 1-1.

City play quite an open style of play, and their high-risk strategy when building up from the back can quickly result in high-calibre scoring opportunities for the opposition if it goes wrong.

Each team has won only three league battles this season, and they’ll both view this as a realistic winning chance to claim a fourth. Therefore, an entertaining game is definitely on the cards, given both will push for victory, with goals more than probable.

Stockport v Wycombe – Both Teams To Score, Yes

This is certainly an eye-catching game across the Tuesday EFL card. League One surprise package Wycombe find themselves sitting second in the table, with only big-spending Birmingham managing more League One points at this stage.

However, Matt Bloomfield’s side will be more than aware that Stockport is no easy place to go. County have lost only two league assignments all season and have suffered only one league defeat at Edgeley Park since the beginning of March.

Wycombe may be one of the darlings in the league based on their results and performances this season, but they do top the league in one particular category. That is for matches featuring both teams scoring. 75% of their league clashes have done so, which is quite incredible considering how many points they’ve achieved.

Their presence often contributes to end-to-end games, but Stockport aren’t too shabby in that regard either, as Dave Challinor’s side have seen eight of their 13 league contests include BTTS, too.

Stockport may have drawn over half of their league games but that is very much a false reflection on the kind of team they are. They will play to win, without a doubt, whereas Wycombe have also become accustomed to such an approach, too.

Swansea v Watford – Under 2.5 Goals

Swansea ended their six-game winless run and five-game non-scoring streak when defeating Oxford on the road on Saturday.

That’ll give them a much-needed boost going into this encounter with Watford, who hit Sheffield Wednesday for six in their own weekend fixture. Confidence, therefore, will be high in both camps, but in truth, this game could turn into a bit of a midweek slog in South Wales on Tuesday night.

It is mainly due to the presence of Swansea that goals aren’t necessarily an instant thought when determining pre-match thoughts on this particular contest. They did have three in their weekend success in Oxfordshire, which is only the fourth time in all competitions this season when three or more goals flowed in one of their matches. Over their 15 all-around fixtures, there have been seven 1-0s, two 0-s, and two 1-1s.

It was more than a freak result for Watford to go to Sheffield Wednesday and win 6-2. Remember, they’d lost the six away games they’d played before this. Despite this great triumph, they remain much stronger at Vicarage Road than on their travels. Tom Cleverley’s side won’t be taking Swansea lightly; a Swansea team likely to enjoy most of the possession.

The Hornets are conceding an average of 1.70 away league goals this season, and that cannot continue if they remain in and around the playoffs. Thankfully for them, the Swans are the lowest scorers in the Championship, further enhancing claims of a likely cagey contest on Tuesday.
