We’ve got a belter of a Super Sunday in the Premier League this weekend. First up it’s Spurs v Aston Villa at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before all eyes turn to Old Trafford for Man United v Chelsea.
Paddy Power pundit Joe Cole is back with his best bets, and he has a couple of player picks in here, too, so Paddy’s Super Sub promotion will kick in if they’re replaced during the match, and the bet will carry over to their replacements.

Spurs v Aston Villa
WHEN: Sunday, November 3rd, 14:00
WHERE: The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London
TV: Sky Sports Premier League & Sky Sports Main Event
It’s a tough job that Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has on his hands now in trying to juggle the whole Ollie Watkins, Jhon Duran situation.
Duran knows his worth as a player and knows his quality. You want that arrogance in a player, too, particularly in a striker, and it’s got to be hard for him to remain patient.
Emery will tell him that this is the role he’s going to play to play him in and that there are lots of games in Europe, but obviously, he just wants to play. The manager has to manage it.
Spurs were fantastic against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup midweek. I think it’s a really intriguing game here. You have to expect goals in this game. Any time Tottenham play in the way that they play, you expect to see goals, and I just think Villa will be a little too much for the hosts, however.
I’m going to go with 2-1 to Villa, I think they’re the real deal. I think Tottenham still had their frailties. Offensively. I think Duran will get the nod to start, too, and I’d back him to get on the scoresheet.
Man United v Chelsea
WHEN: Sunday, November 3rd, 16:30
WHERE: Old Trafford, Manchester
TV: Sky Sports Premier League & Sky Sports Main Event
I think it was a mistake to keep Erik ten Hag on after the FA Cup win over Man City last season. If he’d have left then, I reckon it would’ve been the type of situation that worked for everyone involved.
He could have walked away, head held high, into another great job. That really was a remarkable FA Cup Final; you cannot take that away from them, and he won the League Cup the previous season. United couldn’t have started the season fresh with a new manager, but instead, they kept him on.
It’s a mistake, and it’s cost the club over £100m, when you take all the signings into consideration. Now, a new manager has to come in and knit all these players together, and then it’ll restart again in the next two transfer windows.
However, you usually see a bit of a bounce when a new manager comes in. The Manchester United players have to take some responsibility; it cannot just be all on the manager, even though the buck does stop with the man in charge.
Especially since they were his players, ten Hag had brought in loads of the players he wanted so he can’t really complain about the amount of time he had or the opportunities he’d be given. I think United were more than fair in that regards and in regards to the money he was allowed to spend too.
As I said above though, from his perspective he can leave with his head held high after winning two trophies, which is what football is all about after all.
The right time to part company was probably past, though, but it is what it is, and it’s going to be very interesting to see Ruben Amorim when he takes over. If, in three to four months, we see the same group of players with the same body language and they’re getting the same kinds of results, then those players will have to shoulder the blame, and they’ll be moved on quickly.
I’d have to go with Chelsea here, though. I’ve got a feeling that Chelsea will go there and win. You put their League Cup game against Newcastle aside, and their Premier League form has been great. I reckon Chelsea are around two years ahead of Man United as a club. They’ve got lots of young players, and they’ll head to Old Trafford ready to take on the challenge.
United will turn up. There is no doubt about that from me, but I see Chelsea winning in a tight 0-1 with Nicolas Jackson scoring.
