Liverpool v Brighton betting tips

Liverpool  to win & both teams to score
Correct Score Prediction: 3-1

WHEN: Saturday, 2nd of November, 4pm
WHERE: Anfield, Stadium

Liverpool’s strong start to life under Arne Slot continued this week. A draw at title rivals Arsenal last weekend was followed by progression to the League Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday night against Brighton and Hove Albion. Wednesday’s opponents will now travel to Anfield for a league meeting in which the hosts are clear favourites.

The Seagulls have enjoyed some decent results on Merseyside down the years, however. The narrow 2-1 defeat last season was preceded by two draws and a win for Brighton, making this a bit of a bogey fixture for the Reds. However, victory in the week whilst possessing a weakened side and with only one defeat all season, Slot’s men will be full of confidence going into this game.

The Reds might be stronger on Saturday, but Fabian Hurzerler made changes to his side as well for Wednesday’s game. The expected returns to the starting line-up for Danny Welbeck, who is in excellent form, and Georginio Rutter, who was cup-tied for Wednesday’s meeting, will make the Seagulls a more dangerous outfit themselves.

Liverpool’s defensive performance has been a key talking point, with Slot’s side boasting the best defensive record in the league thus far. Prior to the game at the Emirates last weekend, the Reds hadn’t conceded more than once in a game but have now let in two in each of their last two matches, with particular questions starting to form around left-back Andy Robertson.

Slot’s 4-2-4 out-of-possession structure has also seen questions asked about Liverpool’s ability to manage midfield, so Brighton will look to try and exploit similar gaps that Chelsea and Arsenal were able to over the last few weeks. Considering that and the fact, Hurzerler’s men have only failed to score once in all competitions this season means they should have chances to score here.

The hosts’ attack, however, remains one of the deadliest in the league and has produced nine different goalscorers in their last seven games in all competitions, highlighting the variety of attacking options and depth they possess.

Hurzerler’s men registered a clean sheet at Newcastle a few weeks back, but they were outplayed for large parts and the Magpies have been struggling in front of goal, presenting some good fortune for the Seagulls. Brighton had conceded no fewer than two goals in the four games prior to their trip to St. James’ Park nor in the two games since, showing their defensive vulnerability.

The Reds have generally thrived against opponents who try to take them on, which is what Brighton will look to do, and that only serves to create space for the Reds’ most dangerous players.

Liverpool Team News

Liverpool are not expected to have any fresh injury concerns but will be expected to welcome the likes of Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold back into the line-up. Kostas Tsimikas could also be preferred to Robertson, who has endured a difficult few weeks.

Brighton Team News

Lewis Dunk missed the cup meeting between the sides due to a minor calf injury and could return whilst Georginio Rutter was cup-tied so should be back. Danny Welbeck and Kaoru Mitoma are among the players who will be expected to start after appearing from the bench on Wednesday.

Form Guide

Liverpool’s defeat to Nottingham Forest in September remains their solitary loss in all competitions in 2024/25. Prior to Wednesday’s win over Brighton, the Reds secured a draw at Arsenal and a win over Chelsea, with a professional 1-0 victory over RB Leipzig in the Champions League sandwiched between.

Defeat to the Reds in the Carabao Cup was just the second loss of the season for Brighton in all competitions, with the other being their 4-2 defeat to Chelsea in September. Hurzerler has impressed on the South Coast, but questions have been asked recently. A fortuitous victory over Newcastle was followed up with a 2-2 home draw with Wolves, in which the Seagulls threw away a two-goal lead that they possessed as late as the 87th minute.

Liverpool v Brighton Preview & Prediction

Brighton became only the second team to put more than one goal past the Reds this season with Slot’s men demonstrating impressive defensive capabilities, but that was still not enough to stop a dangerous and rotated Reds attack.

Brighton’s leaky defence, which has conceded 15 goals in its last seven games, suggests Liverpool will get ample opportunities to score as many goals as they did in the most recent meeting. We’re predicting a Liverpool 3-1 Brighton scoreline.
