Spurs v Man City Tips: Foden on Fire in our 12/1 Wednesday night Bet Builder

With Erling Haaland to be rested, Phil Foden's got an opportunity to shine at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup fixtures sure do make a tasty-looking menu. Of the six fixtures, five are all-Premier League affairs, so we should certainly be entertained.

Football tipster Paddy Murphy’s got his eyes on the televised match and has dug into the markets to find four value picks for a Bet Builder.  Let’s get his Spurs v Man City betting tips.

Brennan Johnson to have 1+ shots on target

Spurs are having a Spurs season – it’s in the name. They’ve had strong Premier League victories over Brentford, Manchester United, and West Ham but have lost to Newcastle, Brighton, and Crystal Palace. However, it does feel different. When they’re good, they’re very good, and when they’re not, they’re atrocious.

Head honcho Ange Postecoglou was like a bulldog chewing on a wasp after Sunday’s disastrous showing at Crystal Palace, and he will demand a reaction here. As such, he’s probably not going to make too many changes, but if anyone’s going to keep his place, it’s Brennan Johnson.

The Welshman has scored six goals this season in all competitions, averaging a whopping 3.2 shots per game in the Premier League.

He will likely be facing Kaden Braithwaite and Nico O’Reilly here, and their lack of experience could see Johnson having an immense influence on the game. His price is too good to ignore.

Phil Foden to score

Phil Foden led the line in City’s most recent Carabao Cup match, a 2-1 victory over Watford, and there’s little to indicate he won’t be doing the same here. He didn’t score in that match, but in their six games since, he’s either started three or come off the bench twice; scoring two and assisting two as well.

With Erling Haaland sitting this one out, Foden’s going to see plenty of the ball being the player highest up the pitch. He’s not really been able to nail down a place in City’s usual starting XI this season, and nabbing a goal, or an assist, or both, is what he needs to do to give his manager a selection headache.

We should also add that the Spurs’ defence has kept just one domestic home clean sheet this season, and that was against Sean Dyche’s we’re-afraid-of-scoring-goals Everton back in August. With the way Spurs defend, City are most certainly going to be able to create plenty of chances.

Both Teams to score? Yes

On that, City are going to score. They’ve only been kept scoreless once so far this season over their 14 competitive games.

Yes, of course, we know that Spurs did have some kind of hoodoo over City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since moving there, but when we all finally noticed that last season, City beat them twice there in the league and the FA Cup, so that curse is most definitely lifted.

Apart from last weekend’s misfiring against Palace, Spurs have been decent in front of goal of late, scoring 12 over their last five before that visit to Selhurst Park and have scored 11 over their last five at home in all competitions.

Pep Guardiola’s side have kept one domestic clean sheet this season, away to Chelsea in mid-August. Since then, they’ve conceded to West Ham, Newcastle, and Wolves, and Spurs have players in far better form than in any of those three.

2/5
Yes Both Teams To Score

Under 4.5 cards

Since the beginning of last season, most people who look into the cards’ markets tend to go with the Overs picks. Fair enough, referees are most certainly handing out more bookings, and with new infringements being penned into the rules of the game, there are more things to get booked for.

However, City and Spurs rank pretty highly among the goodie two shoes of the top tier. Over their last five home/away games, they’ve only collected a combined 19 cards, five of which were from the North London derby back in the middle of September.

There’s not much of a rivalry here; Spurs know City are the better team, and while many a manager might be tempted to tell his players to kick lumps out of a team to break their spirit and rile up their tempers, Postecoglou prefers to play nice-looking football with nice players who are, well, too nice to win any silverware.
