Over 3.5 goals
Real Madrid and Barcelona both come into Saturday’s El Clasico off the back of eye-catching three-goal wins over Bundesliga sides in the Champions League midweek.
Real Madrid came from two goals down to beat Borussia Dortmund at the Bernabeu on Tuesday night, while Barcelona romped to a 4-1 victory over Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
Barca are a team transformed under Hansi Flick, winning nine of their opening ten La Liga games and scoring a hugely impressive 33 goals.
Madrid, on the other hand, remain undefeated after ten games but find themselves three points adrift of Barcelona courtesy of three drawn games. All signs point to a goal-filled encounter on Saturday night.
Each of the last three Clasicos at the Bernabeu have seen a minimum of four goals, while the two sides have scored a combined 54 games in their opening ten games of the league season.
Over 6.5 cards
It may not be the glory days of El Clasico when Jose Mourinho would employ the darkest of arts whenever he faced Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona, creating 90 minutes of pure sh*thousery. However, there is still plenty of bite in this age-old rivalry.
In their last six meetings, Real Madrid and Barcelona have produced 37 cards at a rate of over six per game.
There is no reason to think that Saturday’s meeting will be any different given the fact that two sides have started the season so well and find themselves within three points of one another.
Lamine Yamal to have one or more shots on target
Lamine Yamal’s star continues to rise and has shown absolutely no signs of slowing down.
Yamal produced an outragerous assist for Raphinha’s third goal in the 4-1 win over Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.
Yamal has scored four goals and provided six assists in the opening ten La Liga games of the season, while he has scored one and assisted one in Europe so far this season.
The youngster averages well over three shots per game in La Liga and there is every chance that he will find the target at least once on Saturday night.
Vinicius Jr. to score
Vinicius, like Yamal, is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down.
Widely tipped to win the Ballon d’Or, Vinicius was instrumental in Real Madrid’s come-from-behind win against Dortmund on Tuesday, scoring a spectacular second-half hattrick to complete the turnaound.
Vinicius has scored eight goals in 12 starts across league and Champions League this season and will be eager to improve on his record against Barcelona.
Aside from a penalty in Madrid’s 3-2 victory over Barcelona at the Bernabeu last season, Vinicius has not scored in a league game against Madrid’s bitter rivals in his last eight games.
Considering the form he is currently in, he will surely be desperate to put that right on Saturday and there is every chance that he will find the back of the net.
Real Madrid to commit 13 or more fouls
Considering the high number of yellow cards issued in recent Clasicos, it is not exactly a giant leap to expect a high number of fouls either.
Real Madrid are decent value to commit at least a baker’s dozen worth of fouls on Saturday.
For starters, they have averaged ten fouls per game in their opening 10 La Liga outings this season, an uncommonly high average for a team in the lofty position of second.
In comparison, Manchester City, who currently sit second in the Premier League, only average six fouls per game.
It is fair to assume that Real Madrid will comfortably beat that foul average in a fixture renowned for niggly and petulant fouling.
