The 2024/25 Premier League season is in full swing and Paddy’s pal Mark Lawrenson is back to gaze into his crystal ball every single matchday.
The Soccer Soothsayer has read the signs and crunched the numbers to produce his Premier League predictions over the coming days. Let’s see what the future holds…
Friday 8pm: Leicester v Nottingham Forest
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
Nottingham Forest got a big 1-0 win against Crystal Palace and Leicester came back from the dead to win it late on against Southampton 3-2 so that will have lifted them. Forest look good this year though and I fancy them to take the bragging rights. Leicester 0-2 Nottingham Forest.
Saturday 3pm: Aston Villa v Bournemouth
I’ve said plenty of times how much I admire Bournemouth’s manager Andoni Iraola, I think he’s great. It was obviously a good win for them against Arsenal but I’m going with the home side. Aston Villa might keep 10 on the pitch, which will help, and they’re flying at the moment. Aston Villa 2-0 Bournemouth.
Saturday 3pm: Brentford v Ipswich
Brentford is a difficult place to go, especially for a newly-promoted team. They’re in decent-enough form and Ipswich are still yet to win so I fancy the home team – just. Brentford 2-1 Ipswich.
Saturday 3pm: Brighton v Wolves
Wolves were unfortunate again against Manchester City and Brighton held on the beat Newcastle last time out which was a good result. I think their luck has to change at some point so I’ll stick my neck out for Wolves. They played well again against City and I’m pleased they’re keeping the faith with Gary O’Neil. Brighton 1-2 Wolves.
Saturday 3pm: Manchester City v Southampton
Another big, easy win for Manchester City. Like Wolves, I hope Southampton stick with Russell Martin because he’s a good manager and they’ve not been far away from getting some results. Manchester City 4-0 Southampton.
Saturday 5.30pm: Everton v Fulham
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
I really fancy Everton here. Since the takeover news it’s like a new club. Sean Dyche is cute, he knows what he’s doing, and he knows how to get points. They’ll be targeting this one. Everton 2-0 Fulham.
Sunday 2pm: Chelsea v Newcastle
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
Newcastle are struggling a little bit. They started well but the goals have dried up lately. With Alexander Isak getting fitter that could be the difference. I think he’s brilliant. Chelsea 1-2 Newcastle.
Sunday 2pm: Crystal Palace v Tottenham
Anything can happen with Tottenham away from home. Other than throwing it away against Brighton the other week they’re actually on a good run but Crystal Palace just aren’t scoring enough. Crystal Palace 1-3 Tottenham.
Sunday 2pm: West Ham v Manchester United
I fancy a low-scoring draw in this one. Manchester United are still nowhere near being convincing and West Ham are limping along. These could huff and puff to a stalemate. West Ham 1-1 Manchester United.
Sunday 4.30pm: Arsenal v Liverpool
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
This is the main event of the weekend but this might be a bore draw. Arsenal cannot afford to get beaten if they’re serious about being in the title race. Martin Odegaard’s still out and William Saliba’s suspended.
Arsenal might play like they’re away from home and it will be tricky for Liverpool to get all three points unless one of the Arsenal players does something daft again. I suspect Manchester City will be the big winners of the weekend. Arsenal 1-1 Liverpool.
