5.45pm: Brest v Bayer Leverkusen – Both teams to score

TV: TNT Sports 3

Few would have predicted at this stage last season that Brest would take on Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League after both sides had made flawless starts to their opening two games of the competition. And yet that is exactly what has transpired.

Brest and Leverkusen sit in second and fourth place following Brest’s wins against the Austrian duo of Salzburg and Sturm Graz and Leverkusen’s victories over Milan and Feyenoord.

Leverkusen’s opponents have obviously been of a higher quality, but Brest will take confidence from their opening two games of the competition.

Leverkusen have not conceded in the Champions League to date, but by strange coincidence, they have not kept a clean sheet in the Bundesliga in their opening seven games.

They have, however, scored in every game they have played in all competitions this season and will almost certainly continue that trend against a shaky Brest defence. They just may have to score at least twice if they are to come away with a third Champions League win in a row.

8pm: Atletico Madrid v Lille – Over 2.5 goals

TV: TNT Sports 6

Both Atletico Madrid and Lille have made mixed starts to their Champions League campaigns, with Atletico starting off on a positive note with a home win over Leipzig before falling to a 4-0 defeat at Benfica last time out.

Lille, meanwhile, also suffered defeat in Portugal, going down 2-0 against Sporting in their opening game before getting back on track with a huge win over Atletico’s near neighbours Real Madrid.

It has been a patchy start to the season overall for both clubs, with Atletico winning five and drawing five of their opening 10 La Liga fixtures this season and Lille also winning just half of their Ligue 1 fixtures.

Neither side has been convincing at the back – Atletico have kept one clean sheet in seven games, while Lille has conceded a goal a game on average in Ligue 1 – and there is a good chance of a high-scoring affair on Wednesday night.

8pm: Barca v Bayern – Lewandowski 2+ shots on target

TV: TNT Sports 5

Robert Lewandowski faces off against his former side in red-hot form after scoring 12 goals in his opening 10 La Liga appearances of the season and two goals in his opening two Champions League appearances.

He will hope for a happier reunion with Bayern than his previous encounter with his former club, when Bayern beat Barcelona home and away in the 2022/23 group stages to send Barca – and Lewandowski – into the Europa League.

Both sides have recorded a win and a loss apiece in their opening two games of the Champions League this season and will look to make a statement at the Camp Nou on Wednesday.

Lewandowski will certainly be out to make a statement and the statistics suggest he will try his luck on a number of occasions.

The Polish striker has averaged four shots per game in the league this season, while he is averaging 2.5 shots per game in Europe. There is every chance he hits the target at least twice as he goes in search of a goal against his old club.

8pm: Benfica v Feyenoord – Akturkoglu score or assist

TV: TNT Sports 8

Kerem Aktukoglu has developed quite the knack for scoring in Europe. The Turkish winger scored home and away for Galatasaray against Manchester United last season and has scored in both of Benfica’s European games this season since making the switch to Portugal.

He has also scored twice in the league for the Portuguese side, with both of his goals coming in recent weeks, and has also registered two assists for his new club.

Benfica, who have recorded two wins from two in Europe, including a hugely impressive 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid, are heavy favourites to win on Wednesday night against a Feyenoord side that suffered an opening-day drubbing at the hands of Leverkusen before coming from behind to beat Girona.

They will almost certainly score goals and the stats suggest that Akturkoglu will be involved in at least one of them.

8pm: Young Boys vs Inter Milan – Inter (-1)

TV: TNT Sports 7

It is early days, but Young Boys are already looking like the whipping boys of the new Champions League format.

The Swiss side opened their Champions League campaign with a 3-0 home loss against Aston Villa before falling to an even heavier 5-0 defeat at Barcelona last time out.

They are currently rooted to the foot of the 36-team table and their prospects don’t look like improving when Inter Milan come to town on Wednesday night.

Inter started with a credible goalless draw at the Etihad before trouncing Crvena Zvezda 4-0 at the San Siro.

They face a team of similar quality on Wednesday and should comfortably put Young Boys to the sword.
