Real Madrid v Dortmund betting tips

Real Madrid to win & both teams to score, yes
Correct score: Real Madrid 2-1 Dortmund

WHEN: Tuesday, 22nd of October, 8pm
WHERE: Santiago Bernabeu, Madrid
TV: TNT Sports

Borussia Dortmund currently lead the table in the reworked format of this competition having won both of their matches, possessing a goal difference of +9 that gives them the edge over other sides also on six points.

Hosts Real Madrid will be favourites for this game having won this tournament a record 15 times, whilst you have to go back to April 2023 for the last time they lost a home game in any competition.

Dortmund will take comfort in knowing that Carlo Ancelotti’s side have already lost one of their Champions League fixtures, going down 1-0 to Lille last time out, but given some of their own struggles this feels like an uphill task.

Nuri Sahin’s remit upon being appointed Dortmund boss in the summer was to improve his side’s attacking fortunes and their 7-1 win over Celtic in the last round shows signs of that process taking place.

The Schwarzgelb have only failed to score once in their 10 games in all competitions this season as well; however defensively, they have been regularly exposed. Beginning the campaign with two clean sheets, Sahin’s men have failed to keep out any of their Bundesliga opponents since, conceding twice to Heidenheim, Union Berlin and bottom side Bochum as well as five when they visited Stuttgart (who Real Madrid have beaten in the Champions League this year, 3-1).

Failure to keep out newly promoted St. Pauli at the weekend only added fuel to the fire that this team isn’t defensively sound.

On paper, opponents Real Madrid are lethal in attack. Adding Kylian Mbappé and Endrick Felipe to a side that already boasted Vinícius Júnior, Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo makes them look unstoppable, but they have had some teething problems as the new players bed in.

Three draws in the league domestically has Ancelotti’s side three points adrift of Barcelona, who themselves have already netted 12 more goals than Madrid. Ancelotti’s men have also benefitted from having already been awarded five penalties this season, the same number as their total for the entire of last year’s campaign.

The weekend’s win over Celta Vigo was the first time Mbappé and Vinicius have both scored open-play goals in the same game suggesting Los Blancos are starting to find their rhythm, and we expect they will cause plenty of problems for this vulnerable Dortmund defence.

Real Madrid Team News

Real Madrid will still be without long-term absentees David Alaba and Dani Carvajal in this match, but other than that, there are no further injury concerns.

Dortmund Team News

Karim Adeyemi was injured in Dortmund’s last Champions League game and remains absent whilst Pascal Gross picked up a knock against St. Pauli last Friday and is subsequently a doubt.

Form Guide

Real Madrid come into the game having won each of their last two matches, beating Celta Vigo 2-1 and Villarreal 2-0. Prior to that they lost 1-0 to Lille in the Champions League and had to settle for a draw against local rivals Atlético Madrid.

Dortmund’s form has been patchy. An 83rd minute winner from Serhou Guirassy saw them overcome St. Pauli last time out but before the international break, they lost 2-1 to Union Berlin. There were goals aplenty in their prior games with the 7-1 win over Celtic preceded by a 4-2 win over Bochum and a 5-1 defeat to Stuttgart.

Real Madrid v Dortmund – Prediction

As the undisputed Kings of this tournament, with a record 15 wins, Madrid are favourites going into this match, and it is hard to see beyond them getting the victory in this game.

Dortmund are scoring plenty and will take courage from the fact that the hosts only have one clean sheet in their last seven, giving us the belief that, unlike in the last meeting between these sides, they can get on the scoresheet. The visitors were also able to create plenty of opportunities in June’s Champions League final and had it not been for questionable finishing, the outcome could have been different.

Unfortunately for the Germans, that isn’t likely to be enough. The attacking power in this Madrid side was too much for them in that game and the addition of Kylian Mbappé, who has 8 goals in 12 appearances for his new side, will only make it more difficult this time around.

Our prediction, Real Madrid 2-1 Borussia Dortmund.
