Arsenal v Shakhtar - Champions League Bet Builder

The UEFA Champions League returns this week and Tuesday night is filled with cracking games including Arsenal hosting Shakhtar Donetsk in London.

Our football tipster Sam Farley has dived into the markets to find five tips for a bumper Bet Builder, so, let’s get his Arsenal v Shakhtar betting tips for Tuesday night’s clash.

Arsenal v Shakhtar Betting Tips

Under 2.5 goals
Both teams to score: No
Gabriel Jesus to be fouled 2 or more times
Taras Stepanenko to commit 2 or more fouls
Heorhii Sudakov to have 1 or more shots

WHEN: Tuesday, 22nd of October, 8pm
WHERE: Emirates Stadium, London
TV: Amazon Prime Video

Under 2.5 goals

Arsenal come into this game with their tail between their legs following a 2-0 humbling by Bournemouth. However, a game against Shakhtar does give them a chance to get back to winning ways, although that’s a lot harder without Bukayo Saka or Martin Odegaard.

The team had managed to get by without Odegaard, even if they looked less threatening, but without Saka they looked hopeless going forward. His speed scares defences and neither Leandro Trossard or Raheem Sterling offer the same mix of pace and goal threat. Under 2.5 goals has landed in 62.5% of Arsenal’s Premier League games and both of their Champions League games so far. With Shakhtar coming here to avoid defeat, they’ll likely be playing conservatively too.

15/8
Under 2.5 Goals Over/Under 2.5 Goals

Both teams to score: No

Even without their star names you’d expect Arsenal to score, although it’s far from a given. That leaves Shaktar, and although they’ve scored lots of goals domestically, there’s a huge step up in quality from the Ukrainian Premier League to facing top level Champions League opponents.

They’re yet to score a goal in this year’s Champions League, posting blanks against Bologna and Atalanta. With the greatest of respect to those two teams, this is another step up again, particularly in terms of the defence they’ll face. William Saliba may miss the next Premier League game but he’ll be playing in this alongside Gabriel.

4/7
No Both Teams To Score

Gabriel Jesus to be fouled 2 or more times

It’s been a campaign to forget for Brazil star Gabriel Jesus who has become the firm understudy to Kai Havertz in the Arsenal attack. Gabriel Jesus has just three starts this season, one in the league, one in Europe and the other in the League Cup, and even with a further six appearances from the bench, he’s yet to score.

His close control and dribbling makes him a handful for opposing defenders and he’s been fouled an average of once per game in the Premier League. When you consider in five of those games, he came from the bench, and he’s played a total of 89 minutes, that becomes hugely impressive, with six fouls against him per 90 minutes played.

4/5
Gabriel Jesus Player To Be Fouled 2 Or More Times

Taras Stepanenko to commit 2 or more fouls

You probably recognise the name Taras Stepanenko, with the 35-year-old veteran is a stalwart for club and country. In 14 years with Shakhtar, and across 85 caps with Ukraine, he’s been sat in midfield, screening the back four and trying to break up play.

In two Champions League appearances this season he’s already picked up one yellow card and averaged two fouls committed per game. He’s lost a yard of pace and faces a tough task anchoring Shakhtar’s midfield, even with Arsenal missing Odegaard and Saka. Expect him to give up multiple fouls.

13/10
Taras Stepanenko Player To Commit 2 Or More Fouls

Heorhii Sudakov to have 1 or more shots

At just 22-years-old Heorhii Sudakov might be the next Ukrainian to move to a top European league. He’s had a slow start in the Champions League taking just two shots across two games but there’s more to come from him.

Domestically he’s having an excellent season, operating behind the front man, in a central role, and has racked up seven goals in the first nine games of the season. It’s going to be hard to score against this back four, but that won’t stop him trying, and we saw Bournemouth register double the shots of Arsenal on Saturday, so the opportunity for a high volume of shots is there.

4/9
Heorhii Sudakov Player To Have 1 Or More Shots

If punters are looking for something extra in this game, Sudakov to register two or more shots boosts the odds on this Bet Builder over 50/1!
