The 2024/25 Premier League season is in full swing and Paddy’s pal Mark Lawrenson is back to gaze into his crystal ball every single matchday.
The Soccer Soothsayer has read the signs and crunched the numbers to produce his Premier League predictions over the coming days. Let’s see what the future holds…
Saturday 12.30pm: Tottenham v West Ham
TV: TNT Sports 1 and TNT Sports Ultimate
It’s yet another London fixture for West Ham and they had a good, much-needed win against Ipswich last time. Tottenham threw it away against Brighton. Spurs might just get it done here, though. Tottenham 2-1 West Ham.
Saturday 3pm: Fulham v Aston Villa
Aston Villa have been busy. They’ve had the Champions League and that boring 0-0 with Manchester United and then most of their squad has been away on the internationals. This might be a draw. As good as they are, it will be a big test for Villa to see how long they keep going with the constant midweek and weekend fixtures. They haven’t got the biggest squad in the world. Fulham 1-1 Aston Villa.
Saturday 3pm: Ipswich v Everton
West Ham took Ipswich apart, so they might need a bit of a reset. Everton will be very, very difficult for them to play against. Since the news of the impending takeover, the mood’s shifted at Goodison, so I can see an away win. Ipswich 1-2 Everton.
Saturday 3pm: Man Utd v Brentford
There have been goals all over the place with Brentford recently and they’ve had those amazing fast starts. With all the fuss over Manchester United, they’ll be absolutely delighted that England have got a new manager because it’s taken them off the back pages for a while! I just about think Man U will win here, but the whole thing at United is so strange at the moment. Manchester United 2-1 Brentford.
Saturday 3pm: Newcastle v Brighton
Brighton were down amongst the dead men but managed to pull it back last time, but that was more to do with what Spurs were up to than anything. I’m going to go with Newcastle. It looks like Alexander Isak might be back, so that will be a big boost. He makes a massive difference to them. Newcastle 2-0 Brighton.
Saturday 3pm: Southampton v Leicester
I’m going to go for Southampton to win for the first time. I saw the highlights of Leicester’s 1-0 win over Bournemouth and my god, they could have conceded three, four, five… They literally hung on. That’s fine, it shows they’ve got fighting spirit but, with Russell Martin needing something, that could be a factor. If he loses, he might have to say goodbye. Southampton 2-0 Leicester.
Saturday 5.30pm: Bournemouth v Arsenal
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
I fancy Arsenal to win this. Just. I’m not worried about Bournemouth’s long-term prospects, they’ve got some good players and an excellent manager and this is almost a free hit for them. I think everybody’s back and fit for Arsenal, so it will be tough, but they’ve been finding a way. Bournemouth 0-1 Arsenal.
Sunday 2pm: Wolves v Man City
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
I’ll just go for a big Manchester City win. I’m really pleased that Wolves manager Gary O’Neil has not been sacked because if they were going to do it, they would have done it before the break to get someone in. It’s been tough for him, but it’s the club’s fault for selling two of his best players and not replacing them. I wonder if the owners are thinking it’s time to get out. Wolves 0-3 Manchester City.
Sunday 4.30pm: Liverpool v Chelsea
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
This could be a good game. There have been some classics between these two down the years. This is Arne Slot’s first big test, which probably applies to Enzo Maresca at Chelsea. It will be tough for Chelsea at Anfield, which can have a big impact. Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea.
Monday 8pm: Nott’m Forest v Crystal Palace
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
Crystal Palace still haven’t won and I don’t think they will here. It was a good point for Nottingham Forest against Chelsea before the break, hanging on after James Ward-Prowse’s mad red card. I like Forest; they’ve got a decent squad now, and I will fancy them on Monday. Nottingham Forest 2-1 Crystal Palace.
