Both teams to score: Yes

Goals have not been Everton’s problem so far this season. The Toffees have scored seven goals in their last four games, taking two-goal leads against Bournemouth and Aston Villa only to lose 3-2 and taking the lead against Leicester only to draw 1-1.

Therefore, it is ironic that their only win this season came after conceding the opening goal against Crystal Palace.

But that victory over a Palace side that currently sits 18th with just three points from their opening six games does not ease Everton’s relegation fears, and they will need to follow it up with a performance against a Newcastle side that has lost just once all season.

All signs point to a goal-filled game on Saturday, with Everton failing to keep a clean sheet all season and scoring in each of their last four games.

On the other hand, Newcastle scored and conceded in their last five league games and barely kept a clean sheet against Southampton on the opening day of the season.

Anthony Gordon to have 1+ shots on target

Anthony Gordon scored from the penalty spot to rescue a point for Newcastle against Manchester City on Saturday. The English winger is decent money to find the target against his former club this week.

Gordon has scored twice this season and averages 1.2 shots per game across Newcastle’s six league games.

He has averaged the fourth-highest number of shots per game for Newcastle this season, and there is every chance he will test Jordan Pickford at least once.

Everton are facing over 14 shots per game this season and have shown no signs of stemming that tide. Gordon and the rest of the Newcastle attack will have their chance.

Alexander Isak to have 4+ shots

One player likely to take advantage of Everton’s porous defence is Alexander Isak. He has scored only once this season, but it is not because of a lack of trying.

The Swedish forward averages 2.2 shots per game, the second-highest average of any Newcastle player after Harvey Barnes. He will likely be considerably better than average against such a leaky Everton defence.

Everton’s 15 goals conceded in six league games represent the second-worst defensive record, behind a Wolves side rooted to the foot of the Premier League table.

They gave away far too many goalscoring opportunities, and Isak will be licking his lips at the prospect of kicking his season into life.

Newcastle to commit 11+ fouls

Under Eddie Howe, Newcastle have never been shy of committing a few fouls. They have averaged well over ten fouls per game in the two full seasons he’s served as manager and have averaged over 11 fouls per game in the six games this season.

Saturday’s game will likely be full of blood and thunder, with both sides needing a win to get their season up and running.

It wouldn’t be a massive surprise if Newcastle exceeded ten fouls.

Fabian Schar to attempt 70+ passes

One thing is certain: Newcastle will enjoy most of the ball on Saturday.

Everton sit rock bottom in the Premier League regarding average possession this season, averaging just 36.9% possession in their first six games.

Newcastle have not been overly possession-oriented, averaging 44.6% of the ball per game. Still, it is a significant improvement on Everton, who have yet to record more than 50% of the ball in a single game this season.

With that in mind, Newcastle players are likely to play many more passes than their Everton counterparts – and no Newcastle player is more likely to attempt 70 passes than Fabian Schar.

The Swiss centre-back has completed around 50 passes per game in the league this season, completing roughly 85% of the passes he attempts.

That means that Schar is attempting less than 60 passes per game in a regular Newcastle game, but this is not a regular Newcastle game. This is a game where Newcastle should see a lot more of the ball than other games this season, so Schar’s pass count should naturally go up.

A significant portion of the game will be played in Everton territory, and Schar will need to recycle possession from around the halfway line. There is every chance that he will attempt 70 passes.
