Borussia Dortmund -1
Dortmund face Celtic on Tuesday off the back of three successive home wins this season and should have it well within themselves to make it four when Celtic come calling on Tuesday.
Although Brendan Rodgers’ side have been in superb form since the start of the season, this is their first true acid test against an elite side. The Hoops have been notoriously poor away from home in Europe.
Rodgers’ has an attacking mentality and that could leave them exposed against a Dortmund outfit that has scored 12 goals in their last four games and that has the advantage of an extra day of rest coming into this clash.
Both teams to score, yes
Celtic are a free scoring side, and while they are likely to be exposed for the chances they take at the back, they also have it well within themselves to find the net at the other end of the park.
Rodgers’ men, after all, have scored 16 times in their last three outings and have not struck fewer than two in any individual game at all this season.
With Dortmund leaky at the back, they have conceded nine in their last four, it would be a surprise if both teams did not net here.
Serhou Guirassy to score
Since making a big summer move from Stuttgart, the centre forward has quickly found his feet in his new surroundings, and now, firmly established as Dortmund’s leading option in the No.9 role, he is finding the net regularly.
Guirassy has four goals in his last three matches and was particularly dangerous against Bochum at the weekend as he scored twice from six shots.
Celtic’s defence is not used to facing a player of such pace and finishing quality, and if he is presented with any room at all in behind the visiting side, he will surely punish them.
Arne Engels to have 1+ shots
Arne Engels has been used as a forward-thinking midfielder by Celtic, which is reflected in the fact that he has seven shots for the club across his three starts since arriving from Bundesliga side Augsburg in August.
The Belgium international is expected to fill the void left by Matt O’Riley, and that means getting forward to support Kyogo Furuhashi in attack.
Withdrawn midway through the second half against St Johnstone at the weekend, all the signs are that the 21-year-old will be given a major role for this match.
Playing in Germany’s top-flight last season, he averaged 1.28 shots per 90 and mustered a couple of efforts in the start he made at home against Dortmund.
Celtic goalkeeper to make 3+ saves
Kasper Schmeichel has been in excellent form for Celtic this season, keeping six Premiership clean sheets to start the season. He will expect to be busier in Germany during this clash.
Dortmund are posting an average of 4.8 shots on target per 90 in the Bundesliga and will be confident of besting this figure against the Hoops. Indeed, they managed six away from home against Club Brugge in their opening fixture.
With Celtic liable to take chances in their defence, the Dane will have to be at his very best to give his side a chance. He has made three or more saves in three of his last four in the Premiership and Champions League.
