Newcastle v Manchester City Tips

Manchester City to win, both teams to score: no
Manchester City to win 2-0

WHEN: Saturday 28th of September, 12.30pm
WHERE: St James’ Park, Newcastle
TV: TNT Sports 1 and TNT Sports Ultimate

Manchester City head to St James’ Park on Saturday in what promises to be an exciting Premier League clash. Both teams have shown strong form, with Newcastle building on their last two impressive seasons and City looking to maintain their dominance in English football.

On the back of a thrilling 2-2 draw against Arsenal last weekend, Pep’s peeps will look to continue their impressive away form in the Premier League, having won their last seven on the road stretching back to March of last season in the aftermath of their 0-0 draw at Liverpool.

Newcastle Team News

Newcastle will be without Callum Wilson and Lewis Miley until after the international break, while Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles remain longer-term absentees.

Manchester City Team News

Pep Guardiola was dealt a huge blow with midfielder Rodri set to miss the rest of the season with a serious knee injury. Kevin De Bruyne is a doubt for Saturday while Nathan Ake and Oscar Bobb are out injured until after the international break.

Newcastle Form Guide

Newcastle were undefeated with two draws and two wins before they were pulled apart by Fulham at Craven Cottage last weekend, losing 3-1. Raúl Jimenez scored just after five minutes, before Emile Smith-Rowe made it two. Harvey Barnes managed to get a goal back just after half-time, but Reiss Nelson stopped any chance of a comeback with a goal in stoppage time.

Prior to this loss, Newcastle were held to a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth, with goals coming from Anthony Gordon and Marcus Tavernier. In the Carabao Cup they needed penalties to get past Nottingham Forest.

Two wins on the bounce would follow for the Magpies, as they beat Tottenham at home with goals coming from Harvey Barnes and Alexander Isak, as well as a strong away performance at Wolves, winning 2-1. Fabian Schar and Harvey Barnes were the scorers on that day.

Man City Form Guide

Manchester City are undefeated so far this season, winning three and drawing two. The run started with a 3-1 win against West Ham away from home, in which Erling Haaland opened the scoring in the first half and eventually scored a brace after 30 minutes. He later completed his hat-trick in the second half to round the game off.

A win against Brentford at home would follow, however, Thomas Frank’s’ side would not make it easy, opening the scoring through Yoane Wissa after just 22 seconds. Who else but Haaland got them back into it on 19 minutes and he grabbed his brace after just 32 minutes which would ultimately be enough to earn victory.

City’s Champions League campaign would then begin at home to Inter Milan, in which both defences prevailed in a tightly contested goalless draw. Last Sunday, title challengers Arsenal were the opponents in a top of the table clash. Guardiola’s side narrowly avoided a defeat against 10-man Arsenal through a 98th minute John Stones equaliser in a thrilling and heated 2-2 draw.

In midweek, goals from Jeremy Doku and Matheus Nunes sealed a 2-1 win over Watford and booked their place in the next round of the Carabao Cup. City have since been drawn away to Tottenham Hotspur in the Fourth Round – the preliminary date for this game to be played is 29th October.

Newcastle v Manchester City betting tips

Manchester City head into this game in a rich vein of form, currently top of the Premier League with 13 points and three clear of Newcastle.

While the Magpies remain undefeated in their last ten home games, the last side to beat them at home were the Citizens. Last season, City recorded a 3-2 win over the Magpies, largely thanks to a goal and an assist from a returning Kevin De Bruyne.

They side have won four of the previous five meetings against Newcastle, with the Toon Army conceding at least two goals per game in the last two.

The last time Newcastle recorded a victory over Manchester City at home in the league was in 2019, however the hosts have enjoyed a strong start, sitting in sixth position with 10 points after five games.

However, form doesn’t tell the tale. Their performances have not been convincing even though they currently sit in European places.

With City looking formidable, with their high pressing and fluid attacking style as well as Erling Haaland’s goal-scoring prowess, this will be a concern for the Newcastle defence.

The Norwegian has already scored 10 goals this season, including two hat-tricks. He could be on hand again in what we think will be a clean sheet and a 2-0 win for Manchester City.
