The 2024/25 Premier League season is in full swing and Paddy’s pal Mark Lawrenson is back to gaze into his crystal ball every single matchday.
The Soccer Soothsayer has read the signs and crunched the numbers to produce his Premier League predictions over the coming days. Let’s see what the future holds…
Saturday 12.30pm: Newcastle v Man City
TV: TNT Sports
I really enjoyed the Manchester City v Arsenal game last week for all sort of reasons. They hate each other which is great – there’s nothing wrong with that! There’s no Rodri and no Kevin De Bruyne for City but Newcastle were poor last week at Fulham. I don’t think City have a great record up on the Toon but I still fancy them. Newcastle 0-2 Manchester City.
Saturday 3pm: Arsenal v Leicester City
Easy win for Arsenal. Leicester got a draw but should have won at Crystal Palace last weekend. I think Arsenal are going to win the league, I’ve said it here before. I think things from other areas are going to help them, like Rodri’s injury, but they do need to stop these stupid red cards. Arsenal 3-0 Leicester City.
Saturday 3pm: Brentford v West Ham
West Ham have had a bad start and I watched them get hammered by Liverpool in the Carabao on Wednesday. West Ham haven’t played a league game outside of London yet and they won’t until November so they’ve not had to travel much and they’ve still been poor. Brentford lost to Tottenham last time but surely West Ham have to improve soon? Brentford 1-2 West Ham.
Saturday 3pm: Chelsea v Brighton
This is like a big Friends Reunited meeting. Brighton have drawn their last three but Chelsea just look decent. They’ve got it together so I’ll back them. Chelsea 2-1 Brighton.
Saturday 3pm: Everton v Crystal Palace
Everton took the lead again and couldn’t hold on again. They really should have won that. The news that they’ve finally been taken over, or are going to be, will lift everyone. Crystal Palace were so lucky against Manchester United last week, it was such a strange game, United should have had about five and still drew. Everton 2-0 Crystal Palace.
Saturday 3pm: Nottingham Forest v Fulham
Fulham really did a job on Newcastle last weekend, this might be a draw though. Nottingham Forest are going well and they’ve still not lost but Fulham have got a bit about them as well and are on a good run. Nottingham Forest 1-1 Fulham.
Saturday 5.30pm: Wolves v Liverpool
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
Wolves are another side who took the lead and got beat at the weekend. They’re struggling to score and conceding plenty. I fancy Liverpool to win this but they might have to adapt how they play a bit with Wolves going into a low block. They’ll make it as hard as they can. Wolves 1-2 Liverpool.
Sunday 2pm: Ipswich v Aston Villa
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
Ipswich got out of jail last weekend with that last-minute equaliser against Southampton from a corner. Whatever happens to Aston Villa they seem to get a result. Jhon Duran scored again off the bench, I bet he’s one of those who’s lethal off the bench but goes missing if he starts. We’ll see.
That said, I’m going to stick my neck out and have this as my upset of the weekend. Ipswich have got better every game and they put up a good fight, at the very least, every match. Ipswich 2-1 Aston Villa.
Sunday 4.30pm: Man Utd v Spurs
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
Manchester United should have won at Crystal Palace, they peppered the bar and the post. Tottenham had to come from behind to beat Bournemouth which showed a bit of character at least. This has a draw written all over it. Manchester United 1-1 Tottenham.
Monday 8pm: Bournemouth v Southampton
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
They’re calling it the south coast derby but I’m not having that! Southampton are struggling and Bournemouth got a going over at Liverpool but at least they tried to play, unlike most. That mentality should be enough to beat Saints. Bournemouth 2-0 Southampton.
Lawro’s Premier League predictions
Newcastle 0-2 Manchester City
Arsenal 3-0 Leicester City
Brentford 1-2 West Ham
Chelsea 2-1 Brighton
Everton 2-0 Crystal Palace
Nottingham Forest 1-1 Fulham
Wolves 1-2 Liverpool

Manchester United 1-1 Tottenham
Bournemouth 2-0 Southampton
