Ajax v Besiktas – Over 2.5 goals

We’ll kick off Thursday’s acca with Ajax at home to Besiktas. Given the Dutch giants’ uncharacteristically-poor season last time out they’ve had to go through two rounds of qualification to make it to the mighty Europa League so they’ve played a whopping 10 games already this season.
They only got past Panathinaikos by the skin of their teeth, winning 13-12 on penalties after a 1-1 aggregate score with the Greeks. Besiktas made light work of Lugano in their qualifier and are unbeaten in eight games in all competitions, with the highlight being the 5-0 spanking of Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Cup.
Besiktas have certainly been among the goals and over 2.5 has clicked five times for them already in 2024/25. This bet has landed in four of Ajax’s last five games and this could be a good watch.
Celta Vigo v Atletico Madrid

We’re going to leave the Europa League briefly with a quick hop over to Spain where Atletico Madrid head to Celta Vigo. Atleti are fourth with three wins and three draws so far.
Celta are going quite nicely in 9th with three wins and as many draws from their six La Liga outings. Though they are away from home Diego Simeone’s mad dogs are Paddy’s favourites and they’ve won the last six meetings between the two sides, with their last loss to Celta coming 12 games ago in 2018 with 10 men.
We’ll keep this simple and back another Atletico win. There should be plenty of goals in this as well with the hosts averaging 4.5 goals combined for and against and Atleti scoring 10 so far.
Frankfurt v Plzen – Omar Marmoush to score

Back to the Europa League now for this one-sided looking Eintracht Frankfurt v Plzen clash. Plzen have played 12 times already this season, losing just once which was last time out to Slavia Prague, and they knocked out Hearts in the final qualifying round of this competition.
Frankfurt have only played five games with four wins and a loss away at Borussia Dortmund. Frankfurt have the quality to win this but, instead, the best bet might be to back Omar Marmoush to score.
The Egyptian has been in fine form this year and has four goals in four appearances and an assist to boot. Those four goals have come in the last three games and he’ll be licking his lips at the thought of another, assuming he plays.
Lyon v Olympiakos – Both teams to score

We’ll finish with a pretty heavyweight clash as Olympiakos head to Lyon. The Lyon rollercoaster is very much heading towards terra firma at the moment and they’ve won just one of their five games so far.
Olympiakos started well with three wins but have drawn and lost their last two in the Greek top tier. It’s hard to tell which way this is going to go, given the unpredictability the two sides have been showing.
Both teams to score might be the best way to play this. Lyon’s defence has been shambolic so far but they’ll expect to net at home and have scored six in their last three. Olympiakos have scored in all but one of their five games and we’ll back them to make it five out of six.
