Arteta famously secured his first win against Guardiola last season with a 1-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium followed by a 0-0 at the Etihad.

However, that draw was his first point on the road in Manchester as Arsenal boss, with four previous defeats there in the Premier League and just one goal scored, by the not-so infamous Rob Holding.

Man City to win

Man City might have failed to beat Arsenal in their three matches last season, but a win for the Premier League champions is overdue in this fixture. They generated a higher xG than their main title rivals in both league meetings last term but picked up just one point.

This time around, they have Erling Haaland in fierce form in front of goal, and the Norway international could make the difference in what otherwise promises to be a tight encounter. Arsenal do not have anyone who can match the scoring power of the former Borussia Dortmund ace, and that could be decisive on Sunday.

Man City most corners

When these sides met in March at the Etihad, Guardiola’s side dominated in terms of possession and territory, and this translated into a strong advantage in terms of corners won (7-4).

This season, City are still picking up plenty of corners. They have won 36 so far this term, at an average of 9 per game, trailing only Tottenham in this regard. Arsenal have won exactly half as many corners as their hosts in the league, pointing to Guardiola’s side bossing this clash in this regard once more.

Arsenal most cards

In both Premier League fixtures between these superpowers last season, the away side saw more cards. Look for that trend to continue here, with Arsenal liable to have to fight and scrap to stay in a game they are unlikely to see much of the ball in. Last term, the Gunners were drawn into 20 fouls at the home of the champions and picked up two cards.

City are barely committing any fouls this season – just 25 in their first four matches – and as such they have only seen eight cards.

Arsenal are second in the Premier League when it comes to cards received on 14. Only Chelsea (16) have more.

Kai Havertz 2+ fouls committed

No Arsenal player committed more Premier League fouls than Kai Havertz last season, and the German has started the current campaign at an even greater lick. The former Chelsea man committed 1.67 fouls per 90 last term but is up to 2.0 in the first four matches of this season.

The 25-year-old is likely to be asked to feed off scraps in this match, which will make his pressing all the more important, and yet, he could be seen as more prone to giving away fouls in his defensive work.

He is one of six Arsenal players to have played every minute in the league for his side in 2024/25.

Erling Haaland 3+ shots

It was one of the curiosities of this fixture last season that Haaland failed to muster a single shot on target across the two games. Arsenal will do remarkably well to limit the Norway star so much this time around, and they will be only too aware of the menace he poses given he had four shots when the clubs met at the Etihad last time.

On top of this, Haaland is quite simply Europe’s most in-form striker. Already this season, he has nine Premier League goals in just four games. That’s more than any other team in the league.

He averages 4.75 shots per 90, and while Arsenal will try to limit the damage he can cause, Haaland still managed to get three shots away against Inter, despite Guardiola arguing the Italians put six defenders on him.
